Re: F/s 3s-gte
would this swap into an 88 celica GT convertible with little to no hassle? im either going to sell my celica and get another honda, or find a swap for this car (auto, 3sfe engine) and make it fast.
i dont like havin a slow put put gas friendly car. i went from driving a 320whp h22 accord to this :( |

Re: F/s 3s-gte
i thnk i am. i might even drive my celica up there to get the engine, not sure yet. im not sure when id be able to get it though, probably around income tax time (wife and i usually get about 1500-2700 back each year).
still not sure though, i need to find a competent celica mechanic (my last was honda only. he'll do my struts and basic stuff, but he said he cant/wont do a swap on a car he's never worked on). |

You should find a good speed shop in your area. We have a few around here, if you want to do the swap here, and pick up your celica when it's all done! Let me know once you decide. |

ugh, id have to drive there, fly home and back, then drive back... how much do shops there charge for swaps? ones that youd go to, not just any shop :P im seriously considering it, depending on how long youd hold the engine for me. i could leave you a deposit or something on it... give me some numbers. let me see what ive got going on here. maybe we can work something out, who knows. |

Re: F/s 3s-gte
probably like 1500 for thw swap nowadays..but youll need a new tranny..and if u go e153 tranny youll need to make custom axels half celica half mr2/v6 camry. The youll have to make custom front mount intercooler piping...make sur eyou do the calculations before you jump into a project. I imagine this will run you roughly 5Gs if all goes well.
Just so you know i have a swapped 5th gen so im not talking out of my ass.

Re: F/s 3s-gte
hm. i can definatly use your engine, but the AWD tranny is worthless to me. 5g's for a swap?! maybe if all the work is custom. i really have to laugh at that, because its just so damn funny. my mechanic said he'd do any swap that drops in for 6 bills.
your engine + FWD tranny from a 94-99 celica = direct drop in. no fabrication needed. total cost wouldnt be more than 2k, if i got your engine, sold the tranny, sold my engine and tranny and used the money to purchase a FWD tranny from a 94-99 celica. im not trying to bash you or anything, but i think labor up there is a tad bit more than my usual guy. anywho, let me know if youd be willing to sell the engine separatly. or, can you find out how much freight shipping would be to 78201? |

Re: F/s 3s-gte
sorry man . First off i said 5gs all together with parts ...and it is not a "direct drop in", you will come to see that there is no such thing soon enough, but hey laugh all you want...the funny thing will be when your 2G estimate becomes what it will in the end.

Hey man looks like you got it figured out. I'm sure the shop you found that specializes in supras and celicas know what they doing and gave you an accurate estimate. When are you planning on doing this? |

Re: F/s 3s-gte
If you do it yourself you might be looking at 2g's or close to that.
When you buy the engine for 1150 or whatever he is asking you should as preventative measures, and because you don't know what kind of abuse the motor has taken, at the very least change all the external seals. - 2x Cam seals, - crank seal, - rear main seal, - hfh & hfhoe, - valve cover - water pump & gasket - oil pump & gasket - thermostat & gasket - intake & exhaust gasket - headgasket(if compression is bad, or you would rather do while the motor is out, meaning less work later) Now you have to look at what transmition your going to use, mr2, your stock, or from a camry, after you've decided what tranny. You now need a clutch & flywheel to match your tranny. You might start out with a budget of 3000, and lets say you get 500 for your motor, that leaves you at 2500, and then add the cost of the parts I've listed, and add the extra labour to change those parts. and I promise you, you will be looking at a bill closer to 5'gs. If a mechanic says he will do it for you at a cheaper cost get it in writing and go and get it done!
