Back to my Roots...
Hello all!
My name is Cyan. I'm from the Tulsa OK area and I haven't owned a celica in almost 10 years. I bought my first car, a red 92 GT liftback when I was 16. (actually my parents bought it for me. ) I owned and modded it for about 3 years then sold it when I joined the lilitary and left for basic training.I miss the hell out of that car sence it was my introduction to cars and modifications. When I got home from BCT I had a new itch for something turbo and RWD. I've owned an RX7 ever sence. Anywho, I was fortunate enough to have a CLEAN 5th gen coupe given to me recently. The only big problem is it has no motor. My brother-in-law's wife blew a hole in the block He then bought a replacement motor for it but he got a 3sge instead of a 5sfe. Of course it wont swap right in so he got frustrated and ditched the car all together. He knew i liked celicas and offered it to me for FREE So here I am with a motor-less 5th gen and a spare motor for sale. after I get it running I will either use it as my daily or sell it. Right now I have DD a 2000 mirage and the gas mileage is hard to beat. |

Re: Back to my Roots...
welcome to celispeed "D" there is a swap guide on here that should cover installing the 3s that you currently have into the celi. and i'm sure many others on here will agree with me when I suggest to keeping it, but it is your car, thus your decision.

Re: Back to my Roots...
Thanks for the welcome. That's strange. I was under the impression the tranny from the 5s would not bolt onto the 3s motor? Thanks for the tips guys

Re: Back to my Roots...
you need to make a hybridish clutch setup. you gotta use the 3s pressure plate and the 5s clutch. this is actualy a treasure throw some low compression pistions and a turbo and some small other things and you have yourself a 3sgte. might be almost as fast as your rx7. depending on the level of modifacations

Re: Back to my Roots...
I'm not looking to modify this one, I just need a reliable DD. It would take a LOT of money to get the celica even close to my money pit, oops I mean My FD.
I read through your swap link and everything in it seems to point toward having a manual tranny, My car came with an auto and I'd like to keep it that way. So i guess my question is: Will my 3sge fit the tranny from my 5sfe? And If so what combo of parts do I need to make it work? |

Re: Back to my Roots...
Also wouldn't I need the 3sge harness and ECU? I'de like to get this thing back on the road as quickly as possible and keep my expenses to a minimum

Re: Back to my Roots...
welcome back to the family.
I can't be 100% just from looking at the pic but that motor looks like a 3sge out of a 4th gen celica. I would much rather have that motor than the 5sfe is such a fun high revving motor. If I'm right you could pull a harness of a 4th gen at the wreckers and make it work. Otherwise like you said if you it on the road fast just buy a 5sfe and go.

Re: Back to my Roots...
Thanks locker. From what I keep hearing and reading the 3sge is a much better performer than the 5sfe. BuT sense this is just for DD I'm not looking to make any power. The car will stay stock other than maybe a drop in k&n filter.
Do you know how much these motors sell for? I listed it in the fs section for $500 obo. Is this about right or am I screwing myself over? |

Re: Back to my Roots...
$500 seems fair for just the motor. Plus you should be able to buy a 5sfe for exactly what you sold that motor for

Re: Back to my Roots...
Nah, just building it to be fun on the street and a blast on the track. I'm not really shooting for super high WHP. But the power band should be nice and fat.
