what the hell is going on lately?
What do youj think of this? Cops To Publicly Destroy Cars Used In Street Racing Wednesday June 14, 2006 As Toronto Police investigate yet another apparent instance of dangerous street racing, their counterparts in York Region are about to take a massive step of their own in fighting the problem. The solution - publicly destroying two cars involved in the illegal activity. On Thursday, cops in the area north of the city will use special provisions of the law to junk the two vehicles that had been specially modified with a need for speed. The cars were seized in 2003 and 2004 when cops caught them being used to tear down a stretch of highway. It's all part of a section of the law called the Civil Remedies Act that grants the courts authority to freeze, seize and forfeit any evidence or proceeds used in an activity determined to be illegal or a danger to public safety. Once the Crown gets its hands on the goods, it's free to do whatever it wants with the items. And in this case, that means graphically destroying both cars. It's the first time any souped-up automobiles will have been deliberately junked by the law to make a point. But cops vow it won't be the last. "Street racing is a dangerous, unlawful activity that puts innocent people at risk," warns York Regional Police Chief Armand La Barge in a statement. "This is what will happen to your prized possession if you continue to race on York Region roads." Since 1999, 34 people have died as a result of street racing in the G.T.A. http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_1169.aspx

Tories to introduce street racing legislation Thursday Canadian Press Wednesday, June 14, 2006 Assistant RCMP Commissioner Al McIntyre (left) explains the circumstances of a street racing accident to Prime Minister Stephen Harper prior to the start of a press conference in Vancouver, B.C., Thursday, May 25, 2006. CREDIT: CP PHOTO/Richard Lam Assistant RCMP Commissioner Al McIntyre (left) explains the circumstances of a street racing accident to Prime Minister Stephen Harper prior to the start of a press conference in Vancouver, B.C., Thursday, May 25, 2006. OTTAWA - The federal government is set to introduce a bill Thursday to make street racing a specific Criminal Code offence. Under the proposed legislation, those convicted of street racing would face driving bans and stiffer sentences than under existing crimes involving vehicles. Many people have been killed or injured in recent years by young people racing on city streets. Prime Minister Stephen Harper revealed details of the bill last month during a visit to Vancouver. The bill follows Conservative legislation to impose mandatory minimum sentences for crimes involving guns and for ending conditional sentences for violent offenders. The government also plans to raise the age of consent for sex to 16 from 14. http://www.canada.com/globaltv/ontar...77466e&k=63486

It is going to be very interesting as to what the cops will classify as "street racing" when people are pulled over. I will bet every modified car that is pulled over will be hit with "..you probably street race" stereotype.

charges dropped nice......................
man i remember back in my younger days the street races were different....like i mean in terms of organization.......i remember going with some older buddies on a friday nite like at 1am meeting a coffee shop....getting the details of where to go... tomken rd. usual spot among other locations......people would make sure hte road was clear....and then it would start...people waiting on both ends so no random cars would enter the stretch of street............... now i'm not sayin this is right either....but i don't remember as many accidents or deaths....people just now do it on ANY street , at ANY TIME, in ANY condition.....thats messed up ...its like u see someone stop at a light and its on now......... like my man Biggie said............things done changed.

Illegal street racing has been going on since the advent of the automobile. If there were more sleeper cars out there I doubt cops would be cracking down as hard. Its the idiots with the rice comin out of their mufflers that draw attention to themselves by driving like retards on main routes.
The neon lights give them away.

thank you for saving me some typing, lol. it's not like every other generation hasn't had street races. Why the hell do u think they underrated the hp output on some muscle cars...because insurance was rising because of, what else, street racing and accidents and shit. Now people have even faster, lighter cars, with more traffic, and everything else. but in a way, I don't blame the cops and government for cracking down on it...but there should be some kind of "ricer" course for the cops to differenciate between an idiot ricer and a reponsible tuner...there's a difference in attitude and knowledge, and cops need to learn that difference, so if they do pull someone over they'd have a better chance figuring out the risk of letting them go without a real hassle or not. apparently the law is gonna be pretty specific about the actual definition of "street racing"...and therefore there is no real concern of getting your licence and your car taken away (unless of course you are actually street racing, then you deserve it anyway) it doesn't matter what they do tho, there will always be at least 2 idiots street racing somewhere, and preventable accidents will occur, people will still die, cars will still get wrecked. for the rest of us, life will still go on
