what gauge wires you packin?
after i did my audio setup i now have
12 gauge to all 4 speakers from the deck 5mm rca's to the amp all grounds are 4 gauge and less than 1 foot and connected with 24k gold power is 4 gauge and is being run through a gold DBlink 100amp wafer fuse cables from the amp to the sub are 12 gauge all wiring, fuses and parts are DBLINK but i couldn't find any nice battery terminals so i think i might grab some no names to complete the package. anyone else a wiring whore?

2 awg power and ground wires, lol, overkill just a little for what I'm running, but I had it laying around, and it was cheaper than going and buying new 4awg (I won't run any less) any my speaker wire is tiny (16 awg I think)...becuz once again too cheap to spend the money, and all my 12awg was too short.
um...don't know the size on my rca's nothing special (IXOS) and I think I have a 180amp (gold) plate (wafer, whatever u wanna call it) fuse I used to be more concerned, when I was running an actual stereo...but now I don't care, becuz it's just something thru together and cheap. used to run 14 awg speaker wire (from amp), and 10 awg sub wire (from other amp), 2awg power and ground...sub amp ground was under 1', speaker amp ground was under 2', had better quality rca's, same fuse (used to be actually required :( )...other than that...I never went as far as special battery terminals (although I did get new stock ones), or brand name matching.

what's the sense of running 4awg to a distribution block if you are just running 8 awg out anyway?? that's just a waste of money (or power, whichever way you look at it)

either way, you are still losing the power you have travelling from the battery if you are switching to 8awg...higher the thread count, the easier for power to flow. therefore, you are running 4awg power to your distribution block...and then instantly cutting your flow in half before even running to any of your amps... but to each their own

Only if the amp is drawing enough to cause problem in the 4ga. My 300W sub amp never draw more then 10A when running my 12". I was running 2 12ga at the beginning.
Bigger wire is to reduce voltage drop when the amp draws high current. V=IR V-voltage drop along wire, R-resistant in wire. Last edited by Pineapple : 05-11-2006 at 06:32 PM. |
