Deconstruction FINALLY Begins!
Well, since there is no first gen forum, I'll post this here. My parents have moved into their new house, and have given me full use of their old shop. Next weekend, my car moves into the heated area, and the deconstruction begins. My buddy and myself will jack it up, and go over everything that will have to be done to certify. Since I'm low on cash, this is the first winter step, certify so I can drive it next summer. Gonna spend my lunch hours this week polishing up my rims, and making some phone calls (see who can fix my gas tank and for how much), maybe even get it running, for next sat. I gotta update my web page, and I'll keep ya posted (for anyone who cares lol), and I'm sure I'll get lots of pics too :D

Martin, you'd be more than welcome, but it's quite a drive from missassauga just to work on your car LOL (Owen Sound, I guess it's only 2-3 hours one way)

Alrite, I got antsy to get started, so I went out to my parents tonite! After moving a snowmobile, a lawn tractor, and another snowmobile (all not running, pushing and pulling) plus a few other fairly large tools...I finally got it dug out. Well, I found out digging it out was easier than moving it! Unfortunately altho I had an air compressor handy, I had nothing to put the air into the one very flat tire with. Plus all the brakes were semi-seized again...since my dad is a carpenter he has very few tools for working on cars, such as a handy floor jack...so out I go to the subi. Grab the little hand jack...which is seized also, dammit! So I get that all free'd up, get three sides jacked up and turning...then the flat tire, have to remove the wheel, carry it out to the subi, use my portable air compressor (that plugs into my cigarette lighter...very handy) and fill it up. Put it back on the car, and then try to push it by myself...not easy at first...luckily my brother in law was there and gave me a hand. So we pushed it far enough ahead, I could put the snowmobiles and lawn tractor back. Then he had to go...luckily I found the easy way to get more muscle into the push and then it was easy...plus my 2 yr old daughter helped lol! My mom came out to help me push it the last easiest 5 feet, but it was the thought that counted! (had she been there earlier she would've helped then too). All in all, it only took me about 2hours, which I think is pretty good
oh and I was gonna take a bunch of pics with my mother in law's digi cam, but she forgot to charge the batteries, and gave it to me with them dead :( But I will get some this weekend for sure! ALSO...I've been doing some checking around, I'll have to replace my gas tank, instead of fixing it. For one no one does it in this area anymore, and 2ndly prolly cheaper just to buy a new one anyway. And I'm cleaning up my GT rims for it, gonna take some before and after pics of them too (they will be temporary until I have more money into it, but still look way better than stock ST steelies) much more to come...

ok, well I've come to the conclusion, I'll prolly have more new info everyday, so instead of posting here and on my web site everyday, I'll just post it on my page unless I have some major news, or pics :)
see linky in signature (goes straight to celi page for convience :D ) btw, it may sound like a lot of work, but it's actually not as much as it seems, the rims are a lot of tedious polishing (and eventually some clear coat) but that's prolly the worst part.

For those of you who haven't checked out the pics on my site yet, I uploaded some of them to here. I will be getting more on Sun (oct 23), and these are pretty low quality, with bad light, but better than nothing I suppose

hey I was just re-reading this thread, and you know what, you would probably have a better chance finding one in really good shape than I did. The stupid thing about mine, after looking for 6-8 months for this one all over ontario, driving 4 hours to look at it, 4 hours back, and then another 8 hours to pick it up, 3 months after I buy it, I could've bought one saftied for twice as much, and it would've been a better deal, or I could've bought one of two that happened to be in town that year (of course they were both auto's but still) if you really wanted one, and you searched a little for one, you could probably find one in decent shape, with fairly low miles, probably even easily certified for $2500 (american) or less. Of course then I may not feel so special because I wouldn't be the only one with a 1st gen on this forum anymore

Thanks JR, I was looking around on ebay for one, and they seem to be around $3000 for a pretty nice one. I kindof want the 22r or 22re, whichever one was in there, can't remember right now. I'll have to keep an eye out.
Are you planning on doing any modifications to it? Sorry if that was said in the past. |

I have the 20R, 77 was the last of the first gen., I'm not sure when they started using the 22r, and the 22re was even later, I could certainly find out, but work is soon.
I'm looking for a 22rte engine and wiring. They came in the trucks in the mid to late 80's, but are pretty hard to find. with a couple mods and a ct26 turbo, 25 psi, they'll put out around 350 hp (according to Toysport), there are a lot of different mods to make lots of power (mostly cuz it rwd) I'm hoping to get jdm mirrors ($200 american shipped, I'll look get pics later), and jdm fiberglass bumpers (of course they are each $250 american for the ones I want, plus $150 for the additional front dam), hopefully I can get the mirrors soon, becuz they are limited quanity but yeah, we'll have to see, mostly I just want to get it on the road for now, worry about mods later
