Alrite, so work has abruptly haulted since the last time I was out (almost a month ago). It seems it will stay that way until prolly the new year. Due to some scheduling issues with my buddy, and the business of this time of year, but never fear. I have a solid gaurentee that it will be down the road for spring time (anywhere from late march to early may), and with some christmas money to help out, parts will be easier to come by. So if you were wondering if I had abandoned my project altogether, I haven't, just temporary hiatus lol, and depending on how the first month goes, she will be making a trip down to the city for somekind of meet up next summer for sure!

same basic colour...gonna take the stock colour (which is actually a lot nicer than it looks right now, found some unfaded stuff in the engine bay under some undercoating) and add a metallic flake to it.
but since my buddy is gonna have all the equip, if I don't like it, I'll just buy some more paint and we'll repaint it :D

I took some pics of the wheels finally, a couple of one before it had anything done to it, and a couple of one after it was all cleaned up (waiting for clear coat). I'll hopefully have them up in the next couple of days.
does anyone know of anywhere to get re-chroming done in ontario?? I doubt it, I can't find anywhere outside of the states, and it gets really, REALLY pricey with shipping and such. but just in case, thought I'd ask anyway

That car has A LOT of rust. Dont mean to be the negative one, but rust is like cancer, you can treat it, but its always there. That rust will come through within a year or two. No matter how good a job you do.
I love seeing classic, being brought back to life, but that thing is gonna require a lot of cutting, a lot of sheet metal, and a really skilled welder, with a lot of time on his hands, to get that thing near perfect. Looks good none the less. Keep us updated

yeah well we're stripping it down completely and getting everything rusty fixed properly. the whole body will be gone over, the underneath, everything. got lotz of time, and have a skilled welder thankfully (may not be the best, but I've seen him rebuild some pretty tough stuff)...t's all good :D, even if everything isn't perfect by this summer, there is always next winter to do more work, and the winter after that...and the winter after that, etc etc. :D

On the Toronto subaru club (TSC), they just got a new vendor (the only reason I found out is becuz they made a thread to say hi and make it known). So I went to their site, becuz they said they sold engines and stuff of the like. Well anyway, I emailed to check prices for the 2JZ-GTE, and the 3S-GTE. Unlike Japan auto parts, who I never heard from after I told them I may not be doing a swap for a year or two, I got an email the next day
Quote:
Wow, I was surprised anyway. I don't know what prices are from anywhere else, but these seemed pretty decent to me. And the guys on TSC say that any of the engines they have in the warehouse right now are very clean, and gave them a big thumbs up. Now I just have to wait to see how much a 2JZ with tranny, ECU & wiring harness will cost, and then just save up some coin, lol, altho I'll prolly just go with the 3sgte...hm...2jz soooo tempting lol... :D

oh shit, guess who's gonna do a 2jzgte 6spd swap??
heard back about price for the full deal Quote:
6000?! Give me a hell yes! for that price why not?? Hell, even if I go with the 5spd, still! of course that won't be for two years, so I'm getting a little ahead of myself...but who knows, maybe my super7 ticket will come thru tonite ;) ![]()

alrite so I got an itch today..."hmm...I got tuesday off", what better time to get some gas in a can, and rig it up to get the ol' baby running. So I got some bulk oil from work, and some coolant, now I can change those fluids before I start 'er up. I also got some brake cleaner so I can tidy up any drops on the floor (that stuffs even more expensive than I thought, no wonder they don't like me wastin it). Tomorrow, I got to steal a drain bucket for the weekend, and a couple more empty jugs so I can bring the old stuff back to recycle it properly.
Just heard from my good buddy chad, and he'll be there for moral support, lol...actually he'll prolly end up doing more work than me again...shouldn't be as bad as long as I can pawn some kids off. I'm thinking rippin the brakes off too see how much can be savaged...maybe the drums, lol, I'm sure most of it will need replacing...thank god for cost + 10%, and christmas money. Well, I just thought I'd give an update, cuz I'm bored and got nothing better to do (other than dishes)

So we're Finally getting Somewhere
good news...brakes are about 90% good in front, and ~65% good in rear, which is awesome, means I only need to replace brake lines and we'll be good to go, brakes wise.
bad news...got no spark...and unfortunately we didn't take out the proper tools to do all the testing to see if it's a big or little problem...I know it did run before, so hopefully it's something not major. EDIT : Site is Updated

wahoo, got my haynes repair manual...on it's way sorta...I gotta wait for the money to clear my account, then paypal it to Rick at http://www.toyheadauto.com, then air mail and bang, I'll have it...all for just over $30. Maybe we'll have a better idea of how to fix any problems we may come up on, now or in the future.
EDIT : Just sent out the payment...$32.19...book should be here next week, I'm so excited!

was that about 4 yrs ago, lol, cuz I picked it up down near hamilton, and the guy wanted 2500 for it. I only paid 2000 which is cuz I didn't know enough about cars to look at it properly, and I had too much money back then.

well, mother in law, still hasn't sent me my pics of my rims (plus the couple I got of the new miata we got in and I washed while I had the camera)...so anyway, still a little grumpy about that...
but :) I got my manual today!! it's not as good as I thought it was gonna be, but good enough, thanx to my buddy the internet, and the proper links :D it says it has information on the 134cu in (2189cc) engine (aka 20R, aka my engine) but all the info is on the 8R, 8R-C and 18R-C engines. Altho it does have the more important things, like wiring diagrams that I need, and it's all basically the same setup/idea under the hood, so it's a good reference. I can find all the specs and whatnot that I need on the net, so I'm still happy. $30 well spent lol...well will be well spent once I have a chance to go work on the car again...maybe Sat...or next mon or tues :) that's all for now...

well got new plugs and wires, old ones were fubared (Plugs = NGK Platnium = ~5.50 x 4, Wires = NGK = ~$38, plus taxes around $70, not bad, I didn't think...considering plugs and wires for my old vw were close to $200)
I think I figured out my lack of spark tho, I got it basically narrowed down to the coil...I have to bring it to work tomorrow and double check it for sure before I order a new one...hopefully it won't be too expensive...at this rate, I'm gonna need to get my fuel cell, paint, and exhaust for my birthday, lol, thank goodness it's in march. I know fuel is getting from the carb to the sparkplugs, which is a good sign :D ...once I get spark we should be off and running ![]() EDIT : Well after double checking it at work, we got a new coil ordered in. We checked it to make sure that we were testing it in a way that it would work...since it's a fairly low output to begin with. After finding out that the new coil didn't work the way we were testing the old one, we tested the old one again a different way, to find that in fact it did work. Now I have to go out again (hopefully I can get out on my lunch tomorrow), and check the distributer, to make sure it's sending the ground signal to the coil. I'll prolly have to bring it back into work to take it apart, and see what the problem is. Review so far : new plugs and wires, they aren't the problem, just old ones were crappy and broke anyway. everything before and including the coil works. fuel is making it to spark. Problem lies somewhere within and towards the distributer...fun, hopefully anything I do have to fix will be cheap (to a certain extent, like everything else so far) BTW, a coil would've been ~$40 + tax some more to edit : turns out the points were dirty in the distributer, so after having them cleaned up hopefully it will start...or at least spark. I'll update update, after I get back from working on it tonite...
