Compression?

I have a 92 GT FWD that has no compression. What do I look for first without spending a forune?

Pull the head off and see whats going on.... kind of a vague question...

It was the timing belt. It had been sheared off because of a seixed water pump. All fixed now, car is great. Bought the car and repaired it for less than $1000. It is a 92 GT.
