High RPM on 5th gear

Just got my celica today and driving on the freeway the rpm would be around 3k+ around 60 mph on 5th gear. Is this a normal occurrance or do I have a problem with my tranny/gear ratio?

I'd say that is normal. My 91 with a 5sfe sits at about 3200 rpm at 120kph or 64mph

really? so what's the fastest i can go on 5th without redlining?

I've gone as fast as 205 kph (127 mph) and that was tough. She was doing a little over 6grand... Basically after 180 (110mph) there is very little power left and it climbs very slowy. I believe I hit 180 at 5200rpm

Does anyone else have this problem/condition? Particularly 5th or 6th GENers? What are your RPMs for 5th gear at this speed?

yea..im at 3400rpm at 120kmh.....my clutch is on its way though...

i got 120 in 3rd gear now....

5th at 3100 is about 140...

but i am all crazy now so don't mind me

i have a 2000 gts, w 78k miles and my tranny is already starting to go, i was wondering if there was a better one i could get and it would eaisly mount up, or if i should just get mine rebuilt

nope... be happy with what you have... if you want a better feel go with a better flywheel and clutch and maybe even metal bushings in the shifter linkage... other than that a good short shifter or somthing might make you happy...

well... i dont need any of that, my syncros on 4th are shot, so, i can spend over a g having it taken apart, or if it was an option, i could put that g towards a better trans

Most jap cars are high revving motors. I used to get mine to 180, and after that, you would have to wait to get it any higher. Took just under a Km to get it to 200 from 180.
