what does this mean

when ppl talk about tires for the measurments they say like 255/55/36 what are all those measurements? is that like the widtch of the tire?

255/55/16

255=width of tire
55=height of tire
16=rim diameter

slight clarification...

first number = width of tire in millimeters
second number = aspect ratio of the tire profile (percentage of tire width, the first number)
third number = rim diameter
