Re: Oil Catch Can help

How's your coolant? Radiator fan working? Since the oil collected is so clean, its evaporated. Your engine maybe running too hot. Or lots of blow by heating up the oil.

Re: Oil Catch Can help

Coolant is fine I just had the rad changed in the summer and the fan works, temp is normal all the time. Gas milage is shit tho! I filled up and well ok drove it hard a few times and ran the auto starter in the morning on those cold days and i only got 300km (really pushing it) I dont think I ever broke 400km in this car.. and tis $45 to fill up! my old Perelude too 35 to fill up and it ran for 400km driving hard... oh well it looks good.. If i wanted economy I should have bought an echo..

Re: Oil Catch Can help

Ok its March 14 2008, I last dumped my can on Feb 24 and I look under my hood to find the same amount! The crud I took out today is nothing like the crud that came out a few weeks ago, this stuff is more like Water not oil, kinda like frying something in a pan then putting it in the sink to soak, water and oil mixture but smells like ass! (so I've heard, not that I smelled ass or anything) OK call me an idiot or a cheapskate but the last crap that came out was exactly like the GTX I put in so..... I filtered it and dumped it back in (seemed like a good idea at the time... damn!) Anyway it seems like the same crap I dumped in came right back out but sort of filtered??? Heres a pic of the first crud compared to the crud today, notice how much darker the old crud is. The consistency of is was like water, I poured it out on a plate to show you (yes nothing but Prince Albert China for my Celica) I also checked my oil and it was a little low so I topped it off and then I saw this Phlegm crap on the oil cap!! it looks like the crap we spit out when we're really sick... I didn't dare smell it (if the water smelled like ass who know what this shit smells like!) so here are the pics:

Crud caught today March 14 08

Old Crud on Feb 24 08

This stuffs like toilet water!

My Oil Cap

My Stick after top up

Oil I used for Winter and to get rid of Sludge (which I thought I had to begin with)

Anyone have any ideas?? Help me Obi wan Klue .. you're my only hope.. (that and you live close)

Re: Oil Catch Can help

The liquid looks normal to me, I wouldnt be using that garbage oil though. I had to buy some the other day cuz i got stuck with an oil leak. And GOD DAM, i should have just spit in the engine. the oil is like the consistancey of water, and doesnt even "feel slippery". needless to say i dumped it the next day for my usual.

Re: Oil Catch Can help

Naw this stuff was like water, I just poured in the rest of the GTX and it was like olive oil, this was like toilet water. I normally use Syntec but I thought I had sludge and decided to go with a really thin oil this winter, I have a can of synthetic ready to go for spring I just wanted to see if I would get better gas mileage with thinner oil and maybe clean out the engine a little... guess not. no change in gas mileage, I think it even got worst. I use to get about 340 to 380 now im lucky if I get 320 (all city driving tho, Rathburn to 401 and Mississauga rd every day.) I got this car in October and it ran like crap.. a tuneup later and it was running ok but I noticed oil all over the plugs when I changed it. Thought it was the pcv so I put in that ghetto catch can, wow I wish I could catch as much fish when I go fishing then I do crap with that catch can!

Pineapple - I checked my coolant and it is at normal levels, so Im not sure what else it could be. Should I do an engine flush then change oil already?

Re: Oil Catch Can help

Rathburn to 401 and Mississauga?

Thats probably why your have so much collection, doing short trips like that.

Does your engine get to full operating tempature for more than 5 minutes?

Re: Oil Catch Can help

Ok today is August 1 2008, i haven't checked the catch can since I cahnged it back in June. I openedit up yesterday expecting to dump over 600ml of oil only to find that it only collected about 20 to 30ml or really dark oily crap, it was too hot so I couldn't pull tha can to dump it and see what it was.. weird? is it the weather? Ill snap some pics later.
