Day time running lights issue
I have a 90 Celica with daytime running lights (Canadian) making the first 3 clicks on my column switch for the headlights/parking lights useless. When I turn the car on my tail lights, fog/driving lights, panel gauges all come on. Is there a thread here that shows how to get rid of this? I would like to be able to start my car without the tail, panel gauges and driving lights to come on. I'd also like to control when I do turn these on via the column switch. I know the US versions didn't have daytime running lights so is this reversible?
Any help would be appreciated Dups90gt |

Re: Day time running lights issue
in the US it's legal to not have daytime running lights.. in canada every car must have them... whats the difference? you'd probably end up being one of those people in the pouring rain/snow storm with no lights on so no one can see you because you forgot to turn them on

Re: Day time running lights issue
The problem is the panel gauges are always on in the car, im not use to it and i'd like to control my tail lights and panel gauge lights. I dont mind the fog/driving lights on but to have all the lights on all the time (except the head lights)... I don't know.. I can never go to a drive in theater and start my engine lest I get lynched by the patrons watching the movie... ha!

Re: Day time running lights issue
can you ever see your tail lights when you're driving? ummm.... don't think so. so that's just dumb anyways. and panel guages? honestly? get over it... that's my advice! :)

i have an MR2 with the same issue. i think it's because of the pop-up lights we have. my theory is that all the accessory lights are extra insurance in addition to the fogs. i removed my fogs, but even in the lowest "click" position on the lighting selector, my bumper lights and rear accessory bulbs still turn on. i don't like it either. i'm sure there is a way to rewire it. just need to pull out the wiring diagram from the repair manual and do all the grunt work. i just haven't felt like it. |

Re: Day time running lights issue
Yeah I know specially the panel gauges, it effects my stereo, as soon as I turn the car on the deck dimms, i know you can adjust it but I like to be able to choose when to turn my gauges on and off. .. and the tail lights... i know you cant see em when you drive but women wear thongs all the time and they cant see those when they walk too yet they still wear em, why? because they can and it makes em feel good, they have the choice to wear the granny panty or the sexy thong..... ok stupid analogy..

Re: Day time running lights issue
i just really dislike the fact that it gives you no choice, without hacking it.
