I got an e-mail back from Toyota Canada
Well, i wrote toyota canada to try and find out what their plans would be for releasing the Scion (Specifically TC model) in Canada. Especially since the MR2 and Celica are going to be discontinued, I think that Toyota will loose a fair amount of market share.
I know the new Corolla has 170HP, etc... but i still dont like the looks compared to a civic, etc.... What do you guys/gals think? Is there anyone out there that has anything to say about scion in Canada? its an awesome car... i've seen a bunch up close in the states, and they are wicked for the $$$ you pay. ************************************************** ******* -----Original Message----- From: Diane Lafreniere Sent: Wednesday, January 26, 2005 1:34 PM To: moondoggz at cogeco.ca Subject: Re: Scion Dear Tim, Thank you for your recent correspondence. Currently, there are no plans to add the Scion marque to the Toyota Canada line-up. We would like to explain that market trends are closely studied to give us a better idea of what vehicles are in demand. Then based on our findings, our Product Planning department is able to choose those vehicles that best suit the needs of the buying public. We recognize, of course, that these choices may not meet the needs and fulfill the desires of all potential customers. However, your interest in the Scion marque has been noted and forwarded to our Product Planning department for their information and future consideration. Thank you again for taking the time to write. Sincerely, Diane Lafreniere Toyota Canada Inc.

Wow I'm suprised you got such a friendly response! I think the TC is pretty nice car and perfectly priced. If they brought it here under the Toyota brand I think it would sell very well.

At the moment the tC can not be legally sold or driven in Canada because it doesn't pass 5 kph collision standards. You never know though, they might be able to modify the design slightly for the Canadian models so that it can be sold here. You can, however, import an xA or xB. There is a ToyotaNation member from Ontario that imported an xB no problem, just had to pay for all the importing fees. He will be representing with us at Darknights this year.
I personally believe Scion will be coming to Canada within the next couple of years, regardless of what that lady said in her email. I wouldn't doubt Toyota, they are led by the smartest and most strategical management of any car company in the world. They may seem like they are behind other manufacturers in certain areas of the market, but every move they make is extremely calculated. |
