engine/tranny swap

searching this and other forums leaves me confused. i have an 88 celica GT, auto, convertible.

aftermarket support appears to be limited, so the only way im going to get more pep out of my engine is to swap it for a bigger one.

my questions are, what engine and tranny will swap right in with little to no hassle?

would it be easier just to turbo my engine?

the auto tranny definatly has to go. i dont like it one bit. its nice for stop and go downtown traffic, but it blows chunks for getting up to speed (not to m ention the 88 engine thats in it is 20 years old...)

thoughts? links? references? im not sure if i want to attempt this swap on my own; i know my way around an engine bay, but ive never attempted a swap on my own. the most ive done is replace stuff like the tb + IM, the ecu, the dizzy, stuff like that.

Re: engine/tranny swap

Welcome to the site, and your best bet is to do a 3sgte swap. search more on alltrac.net and 4gcelica.org and you should find all the answers you need. On either board you can prob find the parts you need as well. Gl with the swap.
