Motor Problems

On my 91 2.2 celica I got it running but it seems to sputter almost like spark nocking. Its def in time, has new plugs, wires and dist cap, one thing i was wondering though is it doesnt have the catylatic converter on it. Its cut off before it. I know the older mustangs would run rich because the oxygen sensor couldnt get hot enough to adj. the fuel. Just wondering if anyone knows if not having that converter there will bother it and also if anyone knows what else to check. It seems like it loads up but it doent really smoke at all. Usually starts right up and runs at 1 grand. Just when you rev it it sounds like its loaded up and wount clear out. any help is appreciated!

Will it die if you floor it fast and bring it to 3000? Could you bring it to 3000 slowly?

sometimes if u rev it fast it wants to cut out but others it will go to cut out then rev. it def has no problem reving slow though.
