Vibrations through steering column...

Any of you guys get symptoms like this? I can't feel it in the steering wheel itself, but under acceleration my keys rattle like crazy. It's annoying as hell.... Doesn't matter what speed, only that I'm accelerating. Take my foot off the gas, and the vibration and therefore rattle, goes away. I can put my hand on the column, where the ignition is, and it's a pretty strong vibration. Not certain why i can't feel it in the wheel itself, but at least I got that going for me. :D

Any thoughts?

Oh, it's a '00 GTS, with about 30k on it. 6spd....

If something was wrong with your column it would most likley make a popping sound. And if the alignment was off, the car would pull to one way. Check and make sure that the weights are still on your wheels and they may need to be balanced

Here's a way to check if it's the wheels: Try goosing the pedal without putting it in gear and let it rev/idle. If you get vibration without rolling it could be the motor mounts -- excessive vibration in the cabin could result if the mounts are worn or if they were replaced with overly firm mounts or a torque brace was installed.

I definitely think it's something to do with the engine. Doesn't matter how fast I'm going, once I let my foot off the gas the vibration goes away. So that'd lead me to believe it's nothing to do with the tires.

Interesting comment on the motor mounts though.

Celicas are notorious for "rattling" under idle, especially as the motor mounts weaken. If everything is running well, and you feel the vibration when at a standstill, my guess would be the motor mounts. Couldn't hurt to check -- you've got the engine warranty for a bit longer; take advantage of it :)
