Radiator coolant

Radiator coolant

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello to all,
Can anyone explain how to replace the engine coolant of my celica 2001 GT.
Will it be better having the engine hot or cold to replace the coolant?
Especially not to trap any air bubbles in the system.
Do you know any sites that can explain better the coolant replacement?
Thank you.

Dont do it when the engine is warm. if you try to remove the rad cap the pressurized coolant will flash to steam and burn the shit out of you.

buy a manual so you dont hurt yourself. and if your not sure pay a shop to do it.

You might be have an air lock in your cooling system, everything in itself points to excessive air in the cooling system. Drain the whole cooling system (the rad and the block), leave the pepcock on the rad open, put a hose into your rad. Start the car, let run without coolant for only a couple seconds (your temperature will climb fast, but it is completely safe) then turn on the hose let run like this for about 30 seconds, close the pepcock. Let the rad fill about 3/4 full with water, turn the hose. Cap the rad run for approx. 1-2 minutes to let it fully pressurize, open the rad and then turn off the vehicle. Now the water level should have lowered and you can now add your coolant. Cap the rad and start the vehicle, the run for 5 minutes. Turn off the vehicle, let engine cool, then open the rad to ensure proper coolant level, add desired amount of coolant to over flow.

By doing this you will 100% completely avoid any type of air lock what so ever.
