stupid INGEN
i have the U shapped cai on my gts and i hate it. it only sucks air from inside the engine bay and there is a sensor that i think was part of the stock air box that is now just hanging around. does anyone have the cai the put the fitler down behind the left fender? if so how do you like it? i want to put a turbo system on it, but with rent and other bills it isn't happening for a WHILE. so is it worth geting the long tube cai or just stick it out with the U shapped?

The "u" shaped intake is called a short-ram intake. Generally it is not as good because it does draw hotter air in, however, most of them are made so that the flow of air from the outside passes through (or some come with a heatshield).
The sensor that is hanging around is your MAF filter. If that is in fact what you are referring to as hanging off then your CEL would constantly be on. Cold air intakes are GENERALLY a better choice for power and sound, but they have their drawbacks as well. The filters are harder to get at to clean, and there is a very, very remote chance that if you got caught in a flood, your engine would hydrolock due to water being sucked into the intake. As for a turbo...if you have to ask questions about intakes at this point I would advise against looking into forced induction all together. It takes time, money, and a bit of engine knowledge to deal with a turbo/supercharged car (unless it came like that from the factory). So I would say it's good that you don't have the cash for one right now.

i do appreciate the reply and i do know a little something about engines. but i was mainly asking should i keep the shorty, or lose it and get the cai in the interm. has for the sensor the maf is located at the end of the pipe closest to the trottle body and is all good. this sensor has 3 1/8inch line connections and has 3 wires coming from the plug. i reserched the part numeber on the sensor to no avail. however my check light is on but the code it is throwing is "insuffecient coolant temp for closed loop fuel system" i have changed every part in the coolant system short of a new radiator. and i am convinced that, that problem is because of a jacked up ECU. i bought the car with a Matrix battery clamp that the previous owner never tightend down, so untill i found out every time i took a hard left turn the battery would ark across the engine shiething and overload the computer. i mainly wanted to know if the cai had provisions on it to plug in those lines. sorry for going on and on.

Since the filter is inside the engine bay, its breathing same temp air as in there. So the location of the temp sensor is not really important. If you're really worry, drill a hole on the intake and put the sensor in. Just make sure you drill the hole in the U section between filter and air flow sensor.

If your going to drill a hole I recomend using a nutsert, or tapping it, or welding/brazing a nut on so you have sufficient thread.

install a CAI in my opinion. from your post the turbo sounds a way off if ever. The CAI will look cleaner in the engine bay and provide a better sound.

i don't even think the turbo is worth the money if you're keeping with the 2zz engine. compression ratio is too high and you'd only be running like 4 to 6psi at most. Go with the blitz supercharger, sounds SICK!! but yes, get the injen cai, like piney said, the short ram takes the same temp air as in the engine.
