CAI Guys
Well this may sound stupid… but my friend at work saw my INJEN CAI and hes like I’m gonna FXXK up my motor cuz water is gonna get in and all that jazz….. Well I’m sure u guys know what I’m talking about....CAI goes behind the bumper in front of the wheel… and there are holes in front of the wheels…. Also it’s been raining every day since I put that intake on (OR AT LEAST IT FEELS LIKE IT) and I’m freaking out…… please tell me do I need to get something? Or not drive my car…. Or ignore my friend at work…..

I have heard some good stories about hydro-lock on Injens. But I haven't seen any first hand results. Do you have a breather valve on it? And I believe that ppl say the problem with the Ingen is the filter so swaping in a K&N might help.

man is it still coverd by some panellign or did u take the panelling out completely. You wont hydrolock unless u drow your filter in a puddle exposed and then intake the water with the air. So if u have panelling there you are fine...otherwise put panelling or go back to air box.

the only way ur really gonna hydralock is if u drive through a 3 ft. deep puddle of water. If u happen to get a splash of water in there and the water bypasses the filter, it won't do any damage. In fact, there are such things as water injection systems. Kinda like a nitrous injection except with water.

to hydrolock , is hard unless like the previous post suggest that you submersed it in deep enough water. ive had one for a year now and its seen so scary storms and i have had no problems, gettin rid of it though cause its a pain in the ass to clean
jus tbe weary of puddles and how deep they are :)

hydro lock needs a lot of water, just think how hot it is inside your chambers...it will turn oto 1 part carbon and 2 parts oxygen almost instantly. all of that will help build a stronger combustion because essential the chamber will cool slightly. like said, just dont go through 3 foot puddles...
when i first heard of water injection I was very unsure of why you would do that, but after reading a lot it makes perfect sense and a lot of comanies that offer it give good information on hydro lock. I've never heard of many cars gettitng hydro lock unless they somehow confuse it for an offroading truck... |

I've had a scare last summer... It rained pretty hard and I was in Sarnia. Every road I took had standing water about 3 inches deep. I ran through like 4 puddles and on the 5th.. the car stall's in the middle of it. I had to tow it to my cousin's in Sarnia and I ripped appart the CAI (I have an AEM) and I found about half a litre to a litre of water in the intake pipe. I dumped the water out and let things dry up a bit. Put it back together and the car started up. That's about as close as I got to hydrolocking. I've driven it through some heavy rainstorms and I haven't had any real issues and I don't have a bypass valve. Too bad it didn't hydro lock. I would have been one step closer to doing up a 2L stroker :P

yeah, the chances of hydro locking are very slim as long as you stay aware of huge puddles. my brothers civic has a cai for years w/o hydro locking (except when another car hit a massive puddle which splashed all over the civic and it started stalling). it needs lots of water to hydro lock. use the tape if you want, like several other people, but it really isn't needed.
