installing injen cai
as title says..i'm installing my injen cai tomorrow since it's supposed to be warm out. I got a few questions before installing it, I've got a cai for the 2002 gt-s..but i've got a 2004 gt-s..i know that there is only 1 vacuum hose and the 2004's have 3 vacuum hoses..I've bought a splitter for it, and I'm ready to install the cai.
what i'm unsure of is, would the cai fit my 04' gt-s? or will i need to customize it a bit? and what other things do i need to watch out for when installing the cai? any help would help. thanx in advance. |

np...you knwo that u will possibly have to cut out some of the black underbody plastic stuff around the wheel well for the cai to fit right? Not to much just enough for it to fit. When you do this make sure u dont expose the tip of the cai because its beside the wheel and on a rainy day it would get drenched in water. Thats the only issue i had.

What u want to do is cover the holes in the wheel well liner near the CAI with duct tape or something so that water dosent get on the filter fromt he wheels. Otherwise u will be cleaning the filter every 6mths.

thanx AK and Sal. I finally installed my CAI yesterday. with regular tools, it took me about 4 and a half hours (with smoke breaks).
Here's the good part...it works perfectly fine, and I can actually feel the improvement. Here's the bad...After reconnecting my battery and started up my car, it was fine (around 3pm). Then around 9pm when I was picking up a friend, i noticed that the check engine light had come on when i started up my car. There's a blue plug that is not plugged in anywhere but on the stock air box, it's hooked up (what looks to me like) to the butterfly. Does this plug have to be plugged in anywhere? or can I just electrical tape it up? |

u can use any air filter cleaning kit. If the engine light comes on. Disconnect and reconnect your battery after like a minute, it should go away and not come back.

not sure if this is gonna work, but here goes...there's 2 items on the pic that's circled in blue. the black plug, and the blue plug. Both plugs can be plugged into that one slot that the black one is plugged into right now.

that plug went into your stock air box to open a flap to allow more air to enter.
It had 3 vacume lines coming off of it prior that worked the flap. no worries the one I did this week didn't trip the check engine light

did u try swapping them and disconnecting the battery for a minute and letting it run? I know when I did it there was no engine light on...Maybe on is a primary and the other a secondary? not sure here but it doesnt seem to be needed for the function fo the cai.

oh ok..i'll try that tomorrow morning. I haven't tried it cause i thought maybe i'd screw up something, lol. i guess i did install it properly, but the check engine light is still on. if i do try putting that blue plug into where the black plug is right now and the check engine light is still on, is it worth it to bring it to toyota to get the ecu reset?
btw..thanx for all the help guys. |
