Touch Screen in dash

Has anyone attempted to install a touchscreen in the storage compartment on the center console thing. I was thinking about attempting it with a car PC. My roommate pulled it off flawlessly with a 350Z. Anyone else attempt it with a seventh gen celica? I have a 2001, was there ever a stock nav option?

there wasn't a stock nav system option for the celica's..well not in north america atleast. I've seen it happen, but it's alot of modifying and personally, i wouldn't bother with it. it's the shape of the storage compartment that makes it difficult. I guess depending what size touchscreen you're thinking to install.

its doable and ive seen it done

search JDM console, it allows for a 5 inch screen but can be enlarged through cutting to allow i think upto a 7 inch

I just bought a celica a few weeks back, and i got installed a double din touch screen into the dash. It has a 6.1 inch screen and has nav and its a really good addition. Its the Kenwood DNX5120. I would highly recommend it, the only downside i found was having the GPS located in the deck, you cant just take it out and put it in another car. other then that its a good score, you can do just about anything with it and unlike the older models, you dont need a CD to operate the nav, it is built into the hard drive of the deck.

but how do you update it?

I've been pondering a carPC option for quite some time now, you can get miniITX cases for <$500 which use very little power drain and take up less space

Just get an eepc from asus, solid state 2GB memory and it runs linux or windowsXP, boots up an 3 secs... then get a touchscreen for VGA . what would you need it for?

The DNX-5120 is updated through a DVD, which you need to order from garmin. If you buy the DNX-8120, or the DNX-7120, they both use an SD card.

yuppers. but roads dont change all too frequently, and with garmin you can view the updates on line, to see if any of them pertain to you and if they are worth the update

actually in the GTA there are over 100 new roads per YEAR

in Halton alone we've seen an increase of 50,000 people in less than 3 years
