Questions before buying Celica
I'm in the market in buying a 7th gen celica, been trying to read info on them but it's kinda scarce. I just have a fewq uestions and I hope that it's not an overasked question.
Honestly, i'm just looking for something with quickness and looks. I am not looking for the fastest car, and I know celica's, even highly modded ones, aren't the best in HP battles, I am just looking for a really fun quick car. After reading everything, I want a nice GTS. Now, I know the revlimiter was lowered in the 2001-2002 series, are these years of the celica be avoided? What are things to look for in searchign for a celica, as in common rust, common problems with engines.. etc.. What mods are recommended right away after purchase? Maybe bigger tires or bigger brakes etc.. What should I expect to pay and at what mileagE? I'm hoping tog et one with less than 40,000, budget to be around $20,000 and buy a 2004-2005 w/ low low miles but would love to pay $10000 for a nice 2000-2003 one with ver low mileage which I have seen, but not sure that I have to stay away from those years. What is the TRD package? Is that just the body kit? Thanks a lot guys! If any more infor for the newbbbs let me know :) I take full responsibility. Hope to see you guys on the road soon |

1. the celicas can be quick but by no means the fastest on the road, just remember that. in the looks department yes it kicks ass and can be modded heavily,. These cars were built for handling, and built well
2. the rev limiter was altered in 2002 to a lower level, the best IMO was the 2001 it has the best of both sides inregards to fixing bugs. 3. Rust- only spots ive noticed is underneath, and such, the body is too new for it to be rusting 4.Basic mods- exhaust, headers, intake, rims, tires, body kit - bigger brakes is kinda useless, unless your going to race just upgrade to aftermarket parts, you dont need teh big brake kit. 5. engine problems- only thing ive seen and heard is burning oil at high mileage and if u go GTS snapping lift bolts(probably dont know what that is, but its important) 6. mileage around 40,000 might be like an 16-19k car, but for the 2000-2003 you could go aslow as $10.000 upto 16,000 7. the TRD package is either just the body kit like mine or like other members who have actual TRD performance parts on their car, which is how it came,. the TRD edition. you wont regret buying a celica, its a blast to drive and will get lots of attention on the road

I know that i've found a 2003 GT-S 55K on it for less than $14k, so you should have no problem getting in your price range.
Looked at a 7th gen today... I talked them down to 13.5k the week after, but decided that i wasn't going to bother, hence the non-continuation of the thread. Last edited by ciento44 : 03-17-2006 at 01:07 AM. |

No dont stay away from 2002...Rev limiter was barely changed and that has nothing to do with the engine as far as I know, engine is the same just some people were pushing it to hard and from what I remember (correct me if im wrong) they did it to prevent people from blowing theyre engines. I had a 2002 GT-S and man was that a fun ride. Great handling, good accelration just low on torque. I personally dont like the remodled front (2003-2005) and thats wh I would go 2000-2002 only. The engine sounds nice, all in all its a great pocket rocket.
Bitches love 7th gens too.

okay so just to be clear, since 2003-2005 are new models of the 7th gen, will all 2000-2002 modifications fit the 2003-2005 just fine? The only difference is the front lip?
the rev limiter on the 2002 was like a lot more than the stock.. i think it was 8300 on most version and like almost a thousand less in the 2002 wasn't it? |

no on the 2002 the rev limiter was like 7700 roughly. And the engine is the same, they just cut put the limiter earlier post 2001. Hey if u want you can disable it but I really dont like the bumper on the 03-05 which is why I would recommend the 2002 (two years after production all issues fixed).

okay if ound out that you'd have to take out the dbw and harness and you can't pfc the 2003-2005 and you guys might be right that the best ones are 2000-2002. Now, if I install the PFC on a 2002 rev limited engine, does it undo the rev limiter?

for 500-600rpm at that high of a range, I wouldn't worry about it, unless you are planning on doing a supercharger than you may worry about it. I'm guessing the powerband drops off before 7700 where it'd be better to shift anyway. I'm not positive on where max hp is, but I'm sure it's prolly before 7700rpm.
