Changing the radio

Hi
I have a Sony cd/mp3 player and the facia adaptor for my 2003 UK model celica. I did some investigating and discovered the type of wiring adaptor i needed to connect my new cd player to the wiring loom without cutting cables.
The adaptor kit arrived and it won't fit the back of my cd player - it's not even close.
I've not removed any of the car's interior yet because i wanted to wait till i had everything so i could remove it and replace it in one session.
Now that I've discovered the adaptor kit doesn't fit my cd player does that mean my player will simply click straight onto the car's wiring or do i definitely need an adaptor of some type?

thanks
David

there should be a clip coming from the back of the deck (cd player) with serveral wires coming from it. These wires should be connected to your adapter kit wires, and then the adapter kit should plug into factory plugs. The colours on the adapter kit and the plug from the deck should match up so you should be able to just connected the colours (solder if you can otherwise twist with some electrical tape)

if the deck is brand new than it should have definitely came with a clip, if the deck is used, and you don't have a clip, contact the seller to see if they have it, or you may have to go to a sony dealer to see if you can order one.

JR

I bought my head unit brand new but any wiring you may be talking about is long gone. All i have is the head unit and face plate....along with the non fitting adaptor harness!!

Looks like I'll need to buy another adaptor to fit this adaptor then??

if it has a stock amp , you have to bypass the amp to hook up the speakers .I had the same problem

Here's a pic of the back of my head unit and the PC2174 adaptor kit i bought

headunit

The adaptor kit will not fit the head unit although it may fit the wiring loom of the car. I've yet to open my dashboard up to connect everything - i wanted everything done in one go.

Is it easy to get a hold of the missing connectors??
What do i need to connect this to my car?

I've got an aftermarket Sony radio too - the back looks exactly the same as yours.

Mine came (new) with some wiring that attaches to that socket above the fuse, and adapts it to the ISO connectors (the black ones in the photo). Presumably you can just go to any Sony dealer and buy the part. Good luck :)

Iwas told that to bypass the factory amp, and then I would have to re wire the entire car. So I said screw it

Thankfully i've found the cable!! My mate had it after i lent it to him and forgot.

I now just need to get round to replacing the head unit.

Shouldn't take more than an hour. Just make sure u bypass ur factory amp, unless u bought the kit that integrates the amp. Have fun!

Bypassing factory amps??
I thought the stock unit plugged into the wiring loom with no amp.
I could then remove that stock unit and insert my new unit with adaptor cable and that was it.

Is there more hardware behind the dash??
