Problems with Toyota Alarm
Hi all...
I went out to my car this morning and could not disarm the alarm system. There has been no warning that my key fob battery has been running low because as recently as the weekend i had a range of around 40-50ft. When i unlocked and opened the door using the key the siren went off. I've spoken to my local dealer who reckon that a sensor is faulty and it should be booked in for inspection. I know the sensor for the car is in the centre console and there is nothing in there that hasn't been in there for several weeks now. My questions are: the car started with the alarm sounding but shouldn't the immobiliser stopped it from running? Where is the siren located? Is it easy to disconnect the siren so i can drive to my dealer without sounding like an ambulance? Has anyone else had an issue like this one?? Many thanks David |

some alarms get de-activated when you turn the ignition (dont crank) over 5-10 times in a row...give it a try

Just turning the ignition on and off several times?
There was no mention of that in the handbook but I'll give it a go. Still don't know where the siren is to disconnect it - i think it's in the bood somewhere because it was way louder at the back and would make it painfully loud inside for any thieves. Any idea why it wasn't immobilised?? |

it looks like i might have a faulty fob.
I tried the other fob on the master key and it works fine. Incidentally - the local dealer told me the car does have an immobiliser but it started because i used the proper key with a built in cchip. For a thief the immobiliser would remain active |

the factory alarm is not vibration sensored...you can have your car completely torn apart, and the alarm would still not go off. hah...toyota factory alarms are shit!
Darich, if you want a reliable alarm, get the CompuStar full alarm system. It's not that expensive and it's money well spent. Does anybody know if insurance companies would lower insurance rates if we tell them that we have installed an alarm system? |

I'm in the UK and my alarm has interior protection. I have the original toyota instruction manual and it lists all the features. The local Toyota dealer also told me that the key has a chip in it.
it also sounds if it detects the sound of glass being attacked. It re-arms automatically after 28 secs if i disarm it but don't open any doors. It could be that it's only the UK that gets that spec of alarm. |

I had the same problem the other day. I dissasembled the fob and found a bad solder join at one of the buttons. Now it works fine, but I keep it as a spare.
Does anyone know a procedure to shut off the alarm with the key, if the remote transmitter does not work? |

my alarm has now worked fine for ages since that first problem. it seems to work better in certain places than others so i think the dealer may have been right - something interfering with the signal in a built up area.
When i'm in a rural place or in a multistorey car park it works no problems from a good distance. |
