Toyota Celica Keyless Entry Remotes & Programming
What does your local dealer charge for Toyota keyless entry remotes?
My local dealer wants $129 a piece plus $35 for programming for each of my cars (02 Celica, 99 4Runner). I'm curious to see what other dealerships are charging for new remotes and programming. I'm done with ebay because the listings show new remotes, and 3 out of 3 times I've won - I end up with junk that doesn't work and won't program. First one was superglued together and cracked. Can't check the battery if you can't even open it. Second one was completely corroded inside from water and didn't work. The 3rd one only 1 button worked and it looked like someone tried to superglue the circuit board pieces back together. Each one was advertised as new, or like new and they obviously weren't anywhere close to that. The "Key less Ride" site is run by one of those same lying ebay sellers, so thats off the list too. What does your local dealership charge? I bet there's some that want even more than what mine is charging. |

For ebay, I already did. I just got some random form-letter email saying that they have sent an email to the seller and that I can close the dispute when I like, or I can pay ebay $25 and they will see if I can get a $30 refund? Thats ridiculous.
I didn't pay with Paypal, but even if I did, all the seller has to do is give Paypal a tracking number proving they shipped anything to you, and you LOSE. I paid with money orders, so I filed complaint forms with my local post office, but the postmaster I spoke with basically told me that they can't get my money back, but will keep the complaints on file. (a lot of good that does me) 2 of those people were suspended on ebay now, but that doesn't help the fact that they screwed me out of about $100 between the 3 of them. |

I found another site online that I'm willing to give a shot - www.ThePartsYouNeed.com
The other "key less ride" site wants about $60 a piece with shipping for the 01 CR-V remote. They're 1/2 that price on ThePartsYouNeed site with the instructions included. I ordered 1 this morning. https://www.thepartsyouneed.com/disp...productId=1796 They had the RS3200 remotes with the light on top for even less, but I have the factory remote receiver so I need the factory remotes. I'll keep you guys posted. If it works good, I'm going to order one for my 4Runner as well. |

if i was u I would just get a compustar alarm system rather than pay all this shit. youll get an alarm with an LCD display and keyless entry (usually comes with 2 remotes).

Those LCD remotes run through batteries in like 3 weeks, and thats annoying.
Plus, if you already have the receiver, it makes more sense to spend like $25 to replace a remote than like $200 on an entire new system and then probably pay someone to install it. |

they run batteries in 3 weeks??? you got to be kidding me man I had one for a for over a year on my previous celica and never had any issues (It was also a 02 celica GT-S). I'm just saying that if your gonna fork out like 250, you might aswell get a nice lcd remote with 2 way pager. keyless entry, remote starter and an alarm.

Who's spending $250 - thats what Im confused about. I've only mentioned the factory system and remotes & $25 to replace lost remotes through the site I found. My friend has one of those systems where the remote looks like a little cell phone or something. Every couple weeks the remote doesnt work and his batteries are dead - on EITHER of his 2 remotes.

then he didnt get a compustar, the best one on the market and they never failed me or anyone I know who owns one. either way about the 250, I assumed you were going to get 2 remotes so thats 260 plus programing is about 300 total.

I got my remote from ThePartsYouNeed.com in the mail yesterday.
Programming was easy, took about 10 seconds. I can't believe a dealership would charge 1/2 hour of labor for a 10 second job. Thats a good way to lose customers. Anyhow, the remote works great and when I went to put in an order for remote for the 4Runner I noticed I got free shipping, so I bought a 2nd remote for the Celica and a pair for the 4Runner. FINALLY I will have remotes that work and that I can use. ThePartsYouNeed.com rocks! $39 a piece certainly beats the $300 you're talking about. |

I was talking about 300 becuase u were talkng about larger numbers from the dealership...and no its certainly isnt better because you dont have a 2 way pager alarm or remote starter with an LCD remote do you? and in USD, its more like 250.

left or right?
Well there are 2 types of remotes for the Celica. The FACTORY remote is this one: ![]() (note - there is no LED light on top) The RS3200 unit which is dealer or port installed is this one: ![]() (note the LED light on top) If you don't know which keyless system you have, you can call a Toyota dealership's parts department with your VIN number and they can tell you. I knew mine was the factory type because I recognized the remote from the pictures. |
