wipers

need help with my wipers. Got new ones because the old ones bascially feel apart. Now everytime i turn them on it makes a horrible rubbing noise against the glass. I took em off and put them back on but still that horrible noise.

Basically im about to stop using them bc i cant stand the noise.

Anyone out there can help a newbie?

do you have them on correctly or backwards?

also, if that doesn't help, try to loosen the bolt that holds the wipers in place...test to see if the sound is still there..if it's gone you've done well :D

make sure you don't loosen the bolts too much, or the wipers will fly off while your driving..

Playa, will respond with two options, based on assumptions I have to make from your posts. If you bought the inserts for the stock wiper assemblies, then you should not have any problems. If this is indeed the case, I would clean your glass with a good glass cleaner and try them again. If as I suspect you did, replaced the entire assemblies, then you have unfortunately found out why the prices for the non-toyota units are as cheap as they are. In a lot of cases, the fastening head sits at a different level from the glass than the stockers. The rubber tends also to not be as flexible, or is a different rate altogether. This can cause everything from what you are experiencing to a noticeable lack of cleaning at the other extreme. The only good units I have found and can recommend are the Motomaster "Reflex" units, which go for about 30.00 a pop. Hope this helps.

i dont know the real technical terms but i went to k-mart and bought the metal and blade that attatches to the wiper arms. I am positive they are the right size so that isn't the issue.
You may be correct that I might need to buy a better wiper blade as you mentioned, but does everyone else have this problem because i spent about 6-7 bucks as opposed to 30.

I have noticed that i dont have the little rod/tube like thing that goes in the center of the wiper but i dont recall having it before. My car is used so this is the first i have touched the wipers.

Playa, I am sure the sizing of your blades is correct. The length of the wiper is not the problem with a lot of these units but the actual distance of the connection of the wiper to the glass compared to the stocker and also the *grade of the blade material used. Inserts for the stockers themselves cost approx 15.00. If you bought yours at Kmart for 6$, for the entire assemblies, then it proves (in most cases!) you get what you pay for. I am not saying you need to spend 30, but you may need to spend more than 6. Hope this clarifies. (*a harder grade of material will not follow the contours of our windshields as well)

from hard experience, little things like this are best bought at the dealer. ok so it will be a overcharged...big deal, atleast you know it will fit and work for another 80k or whatnot.

i figured that is what you do when you change wipers, the rubber was completely off the wiper and im used using the 6-7 buck wipers from kmart bc i used to have a 93 nissan and it worked fine on that. and on my buddys 96 celica they work well so i figured it was worth a shot

go to toyota, you can buy just the rubber for like $8 a piece. worth it I guess, genuine toyota parts.
