Pros & cons of TRD lowering springs for 2000-05 Celica G
My 2001 Celica GT is in excellent condition, but I'm seeing a noticeable increase in body roll. *The car is used only in city & short intercity trips. *
I have stock rims and tires, a TRD cat-back system and an AEM CAI (and changed to Honda S2000 antenna). I'm trying to get some experienced advice about TRD suspension parts. *Toyota dealer already sold me a set of TRD lowering springs, but can't advise at all about my pros and cons. For instance, I need to know: what the specs are on the TRD lowering springs?*Can anyone confirm 1-3/8ths inches in the front, and 1-7/8ths inches in the rear? * Assuming I go with the lowering springs only, would I correct the body roll problems? *Should I definitely replace my shocks with TRD shocks? Hey bud, thanks for your time!! |

i drove in a celica with trd springs and shocks. it was nice, not too stiff and handling was really good.
there are plenty of ppl with experience here, wait a day or two to get a good responce. |

It really depends on how low you want to go. There are so many different springs available for the Celica. The TRD only gives a very minor drop. This is great if that's all you want. If you have a steep driveway or use a parking garage then odds are you don't want to be sitting too low. Me personally, I used to have TRD springs but it didn't suit my tastes. My Celica is a show car and I wanted it down low. So I sold them and bought some Skunk2 adjustable coils and a set of Koni Yellow adjustable shocks/struts to support the agressive drop. I'm down about 2.5" now which is perfect IMHO. However I still might switch out to air ride down the road.
So like I said you have a number of choices for suspension but it ultimately depends on where you want the ride height.

Uberay, can definitely recommend the TRD springs. The drop is approx 1.1 inch all around. If you search this board, the recommendation is that you do the struts at the same time. I can second this. The stockers do work well for a time, but they are always bouncy. They simply lack the damping to manage the slightly lower drop. I can recommend Tokico blues. They are a very good match to the TRD's. Ube, I run my car all year. I would not want to go lower. For a more enhanced drop, the other choice I have heard good things on are Tein S-techs. Slightly lower, 1.5. Word is if you go lower than 1.5, even aftermarket struts do not do well. Hope this helps.

Here's what I eventually did.... *Thanks for the advice everyone!
I went down to Toyota and had them swap my sway bars for the TRD bars (without tower braces), *Next, they swapped my springs for TRD high performance springs (1" down), my shocks for TRD performance shocks, did a wheel alignment, and tightened the steering. *All the parts and labour came in at about CDN $1750, at Dixie Toyota in Mississauga. The body roll is now fully taken care. Everything is just great. *The ride is more comfortable than ever, now, due to the extra stability. One thing is gone, though, with the changes: *the go-cart-like nimble handling that was the hallmark of the stock version, especially around a tight intersection. *But it's more amazing than ever on the open road. |

Good question. *I have the receipt in front of me now, so I can be more accurate. It looks like I neglected the cost of the sway bars which I paid for separately about a month ago. *Sorry! *Here's the true story:
Parts * * * * * * * * * * * * *List * *Unit Price Springs/Shock Set.....1080...........950 Sway Bars front and rear....................................793 Labour: Installation..................................672 Wheel alignment............................99 Total before taxes......................2514 |

oh wow.....sorry to say man but you got ripped apart with the labour costs. I could have gotten you that done for $150 excluding the alignment which I still could have got you for $60. Not sure about the current prices for the parts though.
