K&N Typhoon

Recently installed the K&N short ram Typhoon intake. Very high marks for quality and thoroughness of the kit. Fits very well, no engine service lights. Advertise 6 hp gain, not sure but the car definitely feels more responsive and pulls harder on acceleration. Have a RMM exhaust so the combo may be a bigger benefit together than just alone, not sure. Ordered from the local Canadian Tire with 15% off. Took only two days to come in. Highly recommended.

7, I agree with you on the exhaust note. After the intake install, the note is decidely harder; they do seem to be a good combo. :) Sergio, no heatshield comes with this unit. There is a complete install document with picture of the product and steps on K&N's website. Cheers. ;)

Heat shield won't do anything. When the car is moving, its not bad. When you stopped, all you got is hot air.

Doesnt just replacing the standard panel filter improve performance better than K&N kits? because its forced air induction, and with a better filter?

Standard panel filters are not forced induction.

But theres a funnel in front of it, which is a cold air intake from the front of the car? surely this is forced air?

you could be right... i kind of doubt it though ;) but you never know. need someone who knows more about these things to clue us up. i'm pretty sure the standard intake is not forced air though...

yep, it would be interesting to know. i keep delaying my purchase of a new filter... just too many options to think about...

might try a nice panel filter and see how it feels. will let you know how it goes if that's what i do...

Chaps, forced induction is super or turbo charging. Standard intakes enhance the volumetric efficiency of your engine. There is no "forcing" of the intake charge. Intake kits remove existing air restrictions to allow your engine to breathe better. A Cold air kit provides a colder shot of air, thus making a more denser, powerful charge than the standard air filter setup. A short ram does not provide the same cold air shot, but DOES enable freer breathing. Hence the difference between the two in total achieved horsepower. Short Ram = 6 hp. CAI = 9-10hp. These gains will be further improved with a good exhaust. It's all about the breathing. :) Cheers.

but why car makers do not install these better filters as stock? all these K&N etc. do improve performance a bit, but that surely reduces engine life, I assume
