Upgrade capability of the GT-S
Hey guys, i'm starting to look at more powerful cars to make a decision on what i want. I've been lookin at the Type R, WRX, and i decided i would try and research up on the Celica. I figured i'd be able to get some good info from you owners. I'm just wondering is the avalibility for upgrades and parts for the celica's good, and are the turbo/supercharger kits reliable. Basically can you make them fast, and how customizable are they? I've driven a GT a few times and i liked the ride, but how do they hold up in general?
Any info will be appreciated. Thanks -Mike

dude... all due respect but fuck the celica.. it's a shit car and isn't worthy of comparisons with wrx's and teg'r's and for the same amount spent on any of the 3 i will tell you where you will find your self...
teg spanks them both for economy. wrex works them all in sprint and traction. celica gets more bitches than both of the others. most celica owners are making do with thier cars and the fastest of us are still never pleased with our cars. in short... RUN AWAY!

It doesn't matter what car you own. The more parts you stuff on the car increasing HP/Torque, the more you're displeased with the car and want more. It's just an addiction... Personally, I nevered liked the looks of the WRX, but perfromance wise, it kicks @$$. RSX is a nice car too but still a FWD. The reason I bought the Celi is because it looks nice (IMO) and the cheapest (the damn RSX was almost $40K +tax), and between the RSX-S and Celica, I think its a battle of the drivers (although specs wise, it has the Celi by about half a second on the 0-60mph). Anything is possible with a little cash. But I do agree with MartinGouda, the same amount of money spent on the 3 cars and Celica would probably come out last in line... I also believe that I spot way more RSX's then Celi's. (I didn't want a car that was driven by everyone like the Mustang).

^^exactly. It's a money pit. Buy something you will be happy with straight out of the box or something that you will see major results from various mods (ie: wrx)

well this is pretty much what i expected, so thanks for the input gents. I might just save my money a few years longer and get something nice in a few. My step dade drives a RSX-s. It's alot of fun to drive but when i'm in it i miss the loud noise of the integra engine. But i got time.
Thanks again, -Mike

If you want some serious HP I would not suggest ANY of the cars mentioned above. Buy a nice big V8 like a Mustang GT or a Camaro Z28. You can get them for the same price as the Celica GT-S or any of the other cars you spoke of and leave them all revving their little motors at every stoplight.

the celica (7th gen) was meant to handle great and look good. and they have just enough power to make them fun to drive without throwing fuel economy out the window. you have to appreciate it for what it is.

Agree GT
If you're looking for POWER upgradeability I'd also go with the Mustang GT.
In fact, it comes stock with a significantly better power to weight ratio than the Celica. Gonna be nasty on gas of course. And probably won't handle as well. But for power upgradeability and stock power it's a shoe-in at this price range. |

I think if you want power and handling... WRX will be the choice of car. I've been driving a Celica for 5 years, but worked for a top 10 Acura dealership in US for over 1 1/2 years. Thru that time, i have driven more RSX type S and type Rs, then anyone that i know. I must say, both cars are equally head to head. They both lack low end power and torque... but if you dress it up right... both look amazing(depends on the body kit). Since we do get trades in all the time, I have driven a few WRXs that had 30-50k... must say that for what ever reason, interior tends to rattle alot... and the car idles very noisy. Does that mean the engine endures more wear and tear because of the turbo? very possibly. Should do some research into the durability of WRXs... because when i worked at Mitsubishi few years ago... all the mechanics said that Evos are nothing but trouble... since Evos and WRXs are very simliar... something to think about. Bottom line... nothing can outlast Toyota and Acura... especially ACURAS...
