exhaust

I was going to buy a car from a guy who put a straight pipe where the carburater (spelling??) was, leaving no carburater, and he found that he got more horsepower should i try to do that on my car, or will that be illegal, or harmful to the engine? I live in ny, usa.

do you mean a catalytic converter cause last time I checked a carburator was on the older engines. not harmful but very loud and obnoxious and illegal in some states.

it's not harmful to the engine but it is for your body..it produces more carbon monoxide without the cat....and it's a hassle when it's time to renew your emissions....just put a high flow cat and you should be fine..

^ CO and NO2, NO pollution without cat.

Carburater is on top of the engine where the intake is, don't think the car will run unless its converted to fuel injection.

Any muffler shop, performance shop. Just find out pipe size on your exhaust and tell them you need a highflow cat for that size.
