I was going to buy a car from a guy who put a straight pipe where the carburater (spelling??) was, leaving no carburater, and he found that he got more horsepower should i try to do that on my car, or will that be illegal, or harmful to the engine? I live in ny, usa.

it's not harmful to the engine but it is for your body..it produces more carbon monoxide without the cat....and it's a hassle when it's time to renew your emissions....just put a high flow cat and you should be fine..
