Good cheap mods for the broke high school student...

I just spent every last penny on actually buying my celica (a 92 GT convertable) so I have NOTHING left but would probably have about $500 in the next few months. Keep in mind that I'm a full time junior this coming year so I have no option for a 2nd job. I don't even know if I'm going to keep this one after school starts because my work schedule is 5-11:30. Giving me less than 3 hours to come home, do homework, hang out with friends, chores, or play DDR

So are there any good cheap mods that you guys can recomend? Like some kind of CAI or whatever? I'm not looking to rice my car out. No no. Just add some extra spice to it you know? :)

darknova, I suggest searching this site for 5sfe in this section and others.
before modding make sure all mechanically sound,and nicely tuned.
I know you don t have much time,neither do I
search there s lots a info on this site and others

Does the variable valve timing get messed up by adding an air intake, does the butterfly valve have anything to do with this. Justin

you clearly should not be modding if you do not know the answers to these.

1. VVT get messed up - no.
2. BV is removed when an intake (either SRI or CAI) is installed.

Why has nobody replied by telling me what the butterfly valve does, used to richen the mixture for starting, or is this an emissions control thing. I disagree with the dont mod if you don't know this stuff already. Asking questions, destroying stuff, or reading full shop manuals are the only ways to learn, I'd rather ask questions. Thanks for the response, I'm slowly extracting the useful info from each response I get, Justin.....

it just allows air into the intake chamber when the throttle is opened up.

i read some where that taking the BV out would increase hp, but i hadnt taken it out yet but i have instaled a CAI, should i take it out? what are the cons to it? cant use downshifting to slow you down? and as previously started makes for harder starting?

If you have a CAI you do not have a butterfly valve anymore. It was removed with your stock airbox.

i can think of piles of cheap mods if you have the tools to make then including torque braces and shit like that..
