I need help!!!

Okay Im 15 and my dad got me a 2000 Toyota celica for my 15th birthday. I love it! but the only problem is it dosnt want to accelerate quickly, the previous owner put a air intake in it and did not install it correctly, but we took it to a mechanic and he said everything was fine with it. But the check engine light is always on and it keeps acting funny... but I have entered this post for two questions... What type of engine swap could I do for my car to make it go faster, and what would be your advise of lambo doors??? Thank you!

Answer 1. The car is a 2000, I doubt the car needs a new motor, chances are this car is an auto and its a GT. If so, this is why your car is slow. You can try talking to daddy and asking him to get you a 5spd or a 5spd Swap. Or sell the car and get something faster.

Answer 2. Lambo doors belong on Lamborghini's, and cars that come with it stock (Ie Mclaren) and on show cars, Ie Scotty's car. Unless your car is a show car(which I doubt), and is still slow, DO NOT PUT LAMBO DOORS ON YOUR CAR.

If u really want a fast answer to your check engine light take it to toyota or any certified mechanic and have him hook it up to the diagnostic machine and u get ur answer right away.. As for lambo doors theres another post going on about it.. Damn Should be nice to get a car that age? why do you want to change the motor? first get used to the motor u have and u can feel out your car before going for somethign more powerful that u wouldnt be able to handle and become another statistic.

why not just take the intake out and find someone selling the stock intake for cheap. That will resolve your problems. Oh and just say no to lambo.

I wouldn't suggest a motor swap in your Celica. If you have the money to do that and you truly want something faster than just sell the car now and buy something quicker. The cost and aggravation of a motor swap in a 7th gen Celica would be outrageous. Is your Celica an auto and is it a GT or GT-S? If it's an auto GT then it will never go fast - CEL or not.

For the lambo doors there are some kits out there that are better than others. Some have weak hinges that can snap and drop your door. It is worth it to spend the extra money to get a high quality kit that had lots of R&R and will fit properly. But again as others mentioned this isn't something you want to do until the car is completely decked out. It's sort of a finishing touch when you've done everything else you can possibly do to the car.

Out of curiosity why did he buy you a car when you aren't even old enough to get your license yet?

yeh its sure pretty nice getting a car that nice (even though its slow) at that age... but yeh would have to agree with everybody else doing an engine swamp pretty pointless to a car that new just to make it go fast... and if you do want a fast car should of went with GTS or some other make and model or a v6. and that check engine light is on not because the cold air is installed wrong ( how do u do that anyways ) its probably same reason as mine, the fuel injector and the misfires.

your 15, im guessing you've been driving for about a year. if i were you i'd stick with what kind of car you have right now. you don't want to do an engine swap, trust me, for you, the car goes fast enough.

well first off it is a gt and a 5 speed, and I have been driving standards for 3 years now. I have gotten use to the engine. and I am allowed to drive my car.

goin along like everyone else here.....don't do the engine swap....if u want a faster car sell this and get a faster one..easier to do.....and less headaches

as for lambo..ya....like scotty01 said...its a finishing touch thing u do....and for show cars only......

the check engine light will most likley come back as performance below threshhold. the best way to free up horsepower from aftermarket parts is to send your ECU and a list of all your mods in to have a re-flash done. what this does is it make your car think your new parts are stock. i have the same problem with my 00 GTS.

check the intake, most likely why your getting the Check engine light (CEL) disconnect the negative battery and reconnect it

Well seeing as it's at least a 5 spd. it will have a little bit of pep but nothing that's going to throw your back in your seat.

If you wanted some serious HP you should have told him to buy you a Camaro Z28 or Mustang GT.

Personally I believe you buy a Celica for the handling, the reliability and the fuel economy. It's a great car in so many ways but it's just not a torque monster.

Your daddy must have a lot of money to just buy you a car, and your complaining about speed. Girl, you better look at yourself for a moment. I am 16 and it took me over 2 years to save for my car, and all i have is a 91 celica st. Im not complaining about speed. The whole idea of owning a celica is not for speed, it is for comfort style looks handling and comfort, did i mention how comfortable it is?
Lambo doors are gay, they are called lambo doors because the belong on lamborginis. An engine swap wouldnt be a good idea, because it could end up being a hastle. Good luck with your car, and dont discount its performance.

First off lambo doors look great on celica's whether or not they are a show car or a daily driver doesnt really matter. Second Like AzNDrEaD said just hook the diagnostics to it to find the problem. Third Im 16 and have an 02 celica 5speed that I paid for so why is everyone giving her problems just cause her dad bought her a car, plenty of people have parents that buy them cars. Fourth, Chick racers are hot...I just thought id throw that in there.

Your check engine light is on for i think 1 main reason.....u have a sensor unplugged. I have an 04 GTS and when i got my AEM CAI my check engine light went off. All I did was get my stock airbox, find the plug to connect that sensor to, and plug it in. That was my problem, and my check engine light never went on again. If u disconnect the battery the light will go off for a while but come back on. AND LAMBO DOORS ARE HEAVY IF YOU WANNA BE FAST IN THAT CAR YOUR BEST BET IS TO MAKE IT LIGHT.
