increase HP/torque
Looking to increase my horsepower a bit on my 2001 GT. I think I should have gotten a GTS but the GT I bought is in mint condition. What kind of MOD chip for the ECU will work best... who knows what works? I also though about adding a new exhaust... I'd go for a turbo but I don't want to spend 4g's.... any suggestions would help

uhh interesting... an mod chip for the ECU.? uhhhh what good would that do if you got nothing but stock toys under ur hood... ECU is basically the control pannel that gives out orders on how much air goes out and goes in.. the more air you can make the ECU to put out the more horses and torque u will get... i would suggest go with an Injen cold air (full) or an AEM... two leaders! and then you might wanna get a Magnaflo or APEX1 exhaust system with some 2.5' headers.. and then u might be able to put a mod chip for ur cold air intake that will give the ECU diff air output setup. try this first.

I have got 2000 Auto GTS with SportShift (well in Indonesia, very rare to get the Manual). I guess the best aftermarket Piggyback Chip will be Dastek by Unichip. I got it installed about 3 weeks ago , and TRUST me you could really feel the difference. it tooks about the whole day for the installation and the car is dynoed, before and after the installation. the car now runs at 190 hp at wheels (compared to 175 hp before the installation of Dastek). it cost me about USD 400.00 for the Chip and installation, and I think it should be cheaper in the US.
My other mods are, Tanabe Ultra Medallion exhaust, AEM CAI and Air Power by Silver's Racing. good luck..... |

Stock ECU are tuned for reliability and low octane gas. Tuning the ECU for more aggressive timing with higher octane gas will give more HP. BTW ECU doesn't control how much air go in and out of the engine. It control how much fuel get in the engine and when it get burn. Also a 2.5' (2.5ft) header is too big for any car. |

There are no mod chips for the 7th gen ECU's. If you've seen an ad for one, its a phony. Our stock ECU's are always recalculating so even if you had a chip, the stock will cancel it out. The only thing close to a mod chip is a PFC (Power FC-fuel controller) or a full stand alone engine management system. But for the horsepower to money ratio, it is absolutely not worth it. IMO Forced induction...

no Iam not kidding, i got it printed out on the Dyno Chart, before and after installation. well, you could really feel the difference, trust me.
Guys, i am thinking of putting a turbo in the car, could anyone help me what sort of turbo kit will be suitable for daily driving, as i could only really use it on the freeway at night, as traffic in Jakarta really sucks???? |

the blitz supercharger is the only one avalable for the GTS and it comes with a intercooler.
the XSturbo kit is a good kit as well gtsturbo has his installed now for prob over 2 yrs and no problems

Either way, going force induction is going to decrease your engine life significantly. Especially if you get a supercharger since its force feeding your engine even at idle. If you go with a turbocharger, at least you can be a little bit more conservative and not have the turbo kick in every time you move your car.

Not really.
The blitz kit has a switch that would engage the supercharger when u need it. otherwise it will disable the clutch so u r not spooling the supercharger.
