Re: Should i get a celica?

RX-8's aren't really that fast. Not too mention they are extremely difficult for engine mods (for the run-of-the-mill hobby tuner), and rotary motors have never been overly reliable in the long run. They aren't really that fantastic to look at either. Maybe if he had a RX-7 (single or twin turbo), I could see where he was coming from.

Plus, like others have mentioned, it's not about what he likes or wants, it's about what you like/want. If you like the celica body style, not really interested in overwhelming speed, want a reliable car, and a good looking one at that, pick one up. Fuck what your brother thinks. If you are thinking only 7th gen, get an '03-07. The first 3 years (00, 01, and 02) had quite a few common issues among owners. None were really major (that I know of), but better to avoid them if you can.

Re: Should i get a celica?

That sucks squish. I bought my 1992 Celica Alltrac 3 years ago for $800 yes only 2 zeros. An old lady had it in her garage and she wanted it gone and she lives down the street from me so she gave it to me for 800. But a year and a half later I flipped it.

Re: Should i get a celica?

The biggest issue with thte first 3 years of the 7th gen was oil starvation for the engine.

Re: Should i get a celica?

I wouldn't get salvage, could be lots of underlying problems. It's salvage for a reason

Re: Should i get a celica?

If you buy salvage you don't know what issues could be coming for you. The frame could be bent, so the alignment will always be a little off. Also the engine could have issues from it also

Re: Should i get a celica?

It's okay, but don't buy anything salvage, there's a reason it's salvage. And yes, it will affect the retail value greatly

Re: Should i get a celica?

just give the car a really good look over. take it for a test drive or two. get any of the maintenance info. and things like that. if it seems 2 good of a deal it probably is. if its got the check engine light on get it scanned before you buy.

Re: Should i get a celica?

things to look at when buying a car.

body panels.for dents. look at the bolts around the engine bay for tool marks. this can indicate if the cars been in a front end collision look at cv joints for tears/rips look at the block for leaks. look at the trunk for same thing as engine bay if the check engine light is on make sure to have the owner fix it before you buy. test drive it for approx 50 miles if a issue pops up you know the guy just reset the check engine light. look at the coolant color if you can if its milky dont get it. this is most likely a blown head gasket

Re: Should i get a celica?

We are all clearly in love with Celica's. That is awesome. Other things to look at is in the doors lift the plastic trim at the bottom of the door frame ( it says celica across it) and make sure its not bent or freshly painted over cause that means it was probably in a side collision of some sort. Also make sure there are no new weld spots on the car cause that could mean an area was replaced from a collision or serious rust.
