EVAP Emissions - P0440/0441/0446

Honestly I have had these for a while now but I have no idea where to start and I am tired of going to the mechanic. I glanced at the Celica Manual but perhaps someone a little more familiar on where I should look to find what may be wrong with the EVAP system?

Re: EVAP Emissions - P0440/0441/0446

Ive been to the mechanic for other issues lately. None related to the EVAP codes. The EVAP codes have been the cause for the check engine light for a long time now but never had any rush to fix it. Now that light is just starting to annoy me since everything else in the car is running flawlessly. I changed the gas cap about a month ago but no change. Still the same 3 codes.

Re: EVAP Emissions - P0440/0441/0446

alright man heres what Toyota gives us techs to work with. i say u jack up ur car or find a lift and do these inspections. if ur celi has a bunch of miles on it, might wanna keep a keen eye out for cracks in hoses. look really really well. toyotas evap systems are nuts, urs is designed to detect a hole down to the size of .020 of an inch! check everything it lists. if u dont find any hoses disconnected or cracked and u hit the electrical part of the inspections we'll go from there k? but first start with the visual inspections

The vapor pressure sensor, VSV for canister closed valve (CCV), VSV for pressure switching valve are used
to detect abnormalities in the evaporative emission control system.
The ECM decides whether there is an abnormality in the evaporative emission control system based on the
vapor pressure sensor signal.
DTCs P0441 and P0446 are recorded by the ECM when evaporative emissions leak from the components
within the dotted line in Fig. 1 below, or when there is a malfunction in either the VSV for EVAP, the VSV for
pressure switching valve, or in the vapor pressure sensor itself.

here it gives u a picture of the evap system. look online and u will find a picture describing ur system. it wont let me copy the picture.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1 Check whether hose close to fuel tank have been modified, and check whether
there are signs of any accident near fuel tank or charcoal canister (See page
DI−81).
NG Repair or replace.
OK
2 Check that fuel tank cap is TOYOTA genuine parts.
NG Replace to TOYOTA genuine parts.
OK
Check that fuel tank cap is correctly installed.
NG Correctly install fuel tank cap.
OK
4 Check fuel tank cap (See page EC−6).
NG Replace fuel tank cap.
OK
5 Check filler neck for damage.
NG Replace filler pipe.
OK
6 Check vacuum hoses between vapor pressure sensor and fuel tank, and charcoal
canister and VSV for pressure switching valve and VSV for pressure switching
valve and charcoal canister.
NG Repair or connect VSV or sensor connector.
OK
7 Check hose and tube between fuel tank and charcoal canister.
NG Repair or replace.
OK
DI−90
DIAGNOSTICS − ENGINE
Author: Date: 287
2000 CELICA (RM744U)
8 Check VSV connector for EVAP, VSV connector for CCV, VSV connector for pressure
switching valve and vapor pressure sensor connector for looseness and
disconnection.
NG Repair or connect VSV or sensor connector.
OK
9 Check vacuum hoses ((, (9), (10) and (11) in Fig. 1 in circuit description).
CHECK:
(a) Check that the vacuum hose is connected correctly.
(b) Check the vacuum hose for looseness and disconnection.
(c) Check the vacuum hose for cracks, hole, damage and blockage.
NG Repair or replace.
OK

****electrical part. if u get here with no luck get back with me and ill copy and paste the rest.

My friends subaru has the same codes. It's possible you bottomed out or hit a bump/pothole and disconnected the wires, take a look at them, or get someone who knows what to look for to check it out.
