External Temperature Gauge - Ideas?

I've always wanted to get an external LCD temperature gauge for the Celi. Has anyone done this? I've found this thing at Radio Shack:

I'm not sure that's the final look I'd want, but its a beginning....

Anyways - some thoughts, if you have them:

1) Location of the external sensor? I know that the engine bay would be bad, due to the heat there. I'd just need to find somewhere inconspicuous, but still very exposed to the external air/wind. Remember, wind itself doesn't matter, as windchill ONLY affects living things. Perhaps the rear wheel-well area? Or maybe tucked under a sideskirt?

2) Location of the internal sensor? Any ideas? I was thinking down on the bottom left of the driver's side dash/console area. Nowhere highly visible, since it may not match the interior extremely well.

3) The unit itself? Has anyone come across a better unit, or a better place to look for one?

Mine is from Canadian Tire. I put the external sensor inside intake.

how bout running the external up near the front of the windsheild wipers
or washer fluid squirters

is it lit?.. if not then whats the point at night?

Excellent question. If I do something like this, I'll be sure to keep the backlit thing in mind......nice catch.

You only look at it when you get in and out of the car anyway.
