1/4 mile time

i was just looking up the 1/4 mile time for the 7th gen's and i was surprised to find that the 2000 gts is faster then the 2001 and up how does that work out? shouldnt it be the other way around the 2000 does 15.2 where as the newer ones do 15.6 and up

Re: 1/4 mile time

i dont get it? i know that the newer celicas i think in 03, they started making celicas with cabin filters that could affect its pass time but it still wouldnt be almost .5 of a second difference....

Re: 1/4 mile time

not necessarily lame but not as skilled. ive beaten alot of cars back when i was younger and was into the "street raceing" ordeal. and alot of them i probably shouldnt have been able to beat. but i did.

Re: 1/4 mile time

it also depends on track conditions weather tire pressure there is a lot involved in getting a good time.

Re: 1/4 mile time

I could guess all day as well, but generally speaking, the later in a Generation a car gets, the heavier it gets. So, the '01+ are likely heavier than the '00. Emissions, they probably tried to get lower emissions on the '01+ as well, making them slightly slower.

If these are factory specs, I doubt the driver, track conditions, weather, or tire pressure would have much influence. It'd be pretty safe to guess that the factory would do the upmost to have the lowest time possible on their spec sheets.

Also, the '00 apparently had quite a few issues that needed to be resolved. So in efforts to resolve those issues, they probably had to change a few things, which could all have an effect on performance.

Re: 1/4 mile time

thats got to be the most logical thing ive heard all day and it makes sense too the heavier a car the slower it goes now that brings up the question why make a car heavier?

Re: 1/4 mile time

espeicailly since the celica is suppose to be a sports car it wouldnt make sense to make it slower :S

Re: 1/4 mile time

you would have to add about 500 more pounds to make it that much slower. cause every 100 pounds heavier is another tenth. the weight of my car is the same as an 00 according to the info on the doorsil but it could be something to do with emissions that stuff usually helps slow down a car.

Re: 1/4 mile time

so what ur sayiong is that the newer models would have an exhaust that further restricts air flow for better emssions? and thats y they would be slower?

Re: 1/4 mile time

could b i dont know why it would be that much slower though half a second is a big difference in 1/4 mile times maybe the powerband was better in the 2000 model. one thing i know is that the muffler on the celica was bigger then my friends diesel truck.

Re: 1/4 mile time

i still say its all about the driver. perfect example. ive beaten v6 mustangs, v8 mustangs, v6 3000gt, integra type r, rsx's, rx8. bmw 530I numerous cars that should have been able to beat me but havnt. so its all about the driver. and 1/2 a second aint that big of a leap.

Re: 1/4 mile time

your probably right subspec. all i ment is if all things remain the same the weight the transmission and everything else is the same all it could be is the driver

Re: 1/4 mile time

i think i actually know this one. in 2000 the celica has a slightly higher redline than the 2001 (i forget the exact numbers) and up so assuming the driver was shifting at redline that could account for the change in time

Re: 1/4 mile time

well a higher redline would result in a faster time....
