Anything CAN be done, however, for the price you would pay to have it done I would say buy a new car.

$5000? This kind of mod is not going to be a "slap" on modification. *You may get it done for $5000 (I have no idea what the actual price would be) but rest assured there will be many many more costs that you will incur from such a huge project.
You have to remember it wont be just the engine and fwd set-up that you will be changing, you will have to pretty much upgrade/replace everything...your GT will be just a shell at that point. *If you feel comfortable with that and have the funds to cover the inevitable then by all means go for it.

You are dreaming.
I'm not the slightest bit a pessimist, but I can tell you when you are not being even remotely realistic. |

$5000 for a 2jz?I would have done that instead of the 3sgte if that was the case. It cost me $5000 for a 3sgte swap. Now you want to do a 2jz, engine, ecu, wiring harness, tranny will cost you close to $4000 already. Modifying a fwd to rwd is another thing. There's no way that the labour and other parts will cost you another $1000. This mod will probably cost you close to $10,000 or maybe more. This can be done since there was a guy that put a SC400 engine in a 93 alltrac, however time and money is the key.

well...i found the engine for 2,000 and i figure excess parts and stuff should be equal to or less than 5,000....i mean i am no grease monkey but my brother and dad just put a LT1 in a '88 RX-7
so i think we can make it work....thanks for all your comments and interest....how much money is the 3sgte? and info on that engine would be greatly appreciated! |

That's lots of cutting and welding to fit the RWD. As long as you're doing all labour, you can get it done cheaper. Then you need to be a great welder to not warp the frame. You don't want a RWD that can't go straight.

it would be better to start with an alltrac, since its already awd. your major issues would be motor mounts, frame support, and a lot of custom work to the front supports, as well as the firewall, as the engine is mounted differently from the stock 5sfe. And that isn't even looking at the wiring that would be needed to be done to connect the other componts. As well as the suspension would have to be completely redone, as the extra weight of the motor would be a huge issue. Let alone the power that motor produces would rip the car apart, if it wasn't re-inforced properly.
The 3sgte is the better choice it came stock in the alltrac, can be imported, it came in 3 different gens 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. It's a direct drop in into you existing celica, if you get the one out of an alltrac. They range in hp from 170 to 245, and thats in stock trim.

1 gen 3S-GTE - 200HP, 2/3th gen 225HP. Boosting it to 300 is no problem. Price vary from $2000-$5000. Your stock tranny will bolt on and no need to cut and weld engine mounts. The engine is in Celica GT4/AllTrac and MR2 Turbo.

your looking at about $2000 to start for just a 3rd gen engine, no ecu, no wiring harness.

yea ur car is fwd, but its the tranny, that make it rwd, its a different drivetrain, toyota coded engines like 5sfe, 3sgte, 3sge, based on the same format in lamans terms, so a 3sgte will bolt up to the same motor mounts as a 5sfe(what most ppl have in there celicas)

talk to boosted gt, or spoolin gt, they both have a 3sgte in their 5th gen celicas. There might be one other member in a few weeks with one too ;)
