your looking at spending at least 4000 for your swap. Thats what you should budget for.

You need to call around to see which shop have the engine and other parts. Alway allow another $1000-$2000 for the unthinkable. Swap never go smooth, you'll need some coins to get the car running incase you run into problem.

one more question....will the 3S-GTE engine blow up my pussy gt transmission or st transmission and/or driveshaft? (i say this because my car has been de-badged prior to my purchase and it was advertized as a GT but vins don't match up) in which case i will need to eighter rebuild stronger or purchace a stronger one....

is doing this swap even worth it? all the celica sites i see, people are just bashing ST's. should i just sell my ricer ST and start on somthing better? i knew NOTHING about celicas when i bought it and i slapped some 17 inch rims, 12 inch audiobahns, window tint, dvd player /w 7,2 inch lcd tv on the dash. i mean i like my car, but if i do the swap, am i just gunna be another wannabe GTS kid? should i cut my losses or is my ST worth a kit and engine swap? honesty would be greatly appreciated

As long as you like it, its worth it. You'll get people dising your car for all kind of reason, too old, too new etc. Screw them, its your car not their. Then you need to know what you want and what the car can do first. If you're looking for a 10 sec 500HP car, you'll need to find another one. You could swap in a 3S-GTE and put in lots of time and money to get it there.
The 4A-GZE is good pass 200HP. The stock SC can't get you there but it'll be pretty easy to remove the SC and turbo the thing. Go to Club4AG, MR2OC and spy on 4A-GZE info. Most Celica owners only know the 3S-GTE. |

no it won't blow up your tranny..however when you're doing the swap..think ahead..i will do a break down of some things you'd want to do when doing the swap..and if you're planning on producing more hp..i suggest you think ahead...
some of the seals are pretty old...before you put in the engine/tranny back on..you might wanna do the seals...i just realized that my tranny seal is gone and needs replacing...i could have done that easily before slapping them back in the car..another thing you can do before that is change timing belt, water pump, head gasket, and whatever else you think needs replacing considering that the engine is atleast 10 yrs. old..you also want to get tune up before starting it up...which means..new engine oil..i suggest you use synthetic...new spark plugs...wires..dist.cap, rotor... your clutch for your tranny...best time to upgrade the clutch as well..your old clutch might not handle the power of the 3sgte...a brand new upgraded clutch will run you from 300 and up...but if you wanna upgrade your tranny to an mr2 with lsd, the price you're looking at is close to 1000 including drive shafts etc...but then again..the flywheel and the clutch might be all rusted since the tranny has probably been sitting there for quite some time...then you will need to resurface the flywheel and get new clutch.. front mount or top mount intercooler????a lot of people just stick with the top mount..in that case if you decide to do that...invest on a hood scoop or an alltrac hood which will run you from $300-500...or suffer heat soak...if you wanna think ahead since you want to aim for 300hp...go for a fmic...a descent intercooler will run you from 400-1000 depending on the core etc...then the piping..performance exhaust shops should be able to do this for you..or if you can do all the welding and stuff just buy a few bends or some people just use a lot of couplers to connect the pipings.. you exhaust...stock exhaust should be ok for a while..but if you're reaching for big power..upgrade your exhaust...get bigger pipings for a better flow...3" custom turbo back exhaust will run you to about $1000..unless again..you do your own welding...then just buy a few bends and a muffler.... getting 300whp out of a 3sgte isn't gonna be cheap unless you start off with a 3rd gen...a 2nd gen engine produces 225hp at the crank..not a lot of people hit 300whp with the stock turbo as a matter of fact i dont think anyone ever reached 300 with the stock turbo...a turbo upgrade will cost you from about 700 and up depending on which turbo you're getting...a lot of people try to get their hands on ct20b which the 3rd gen engine has...but it's hard to get a hold of...another upgrade that people go for is the ct27..which is the stock turbo with upgraded internals...i dont exactly know how much hp this turbo can produce but it should be able to get you to the 300 mark...there's a lot of turbos out there that should support a lot of boost so start searching for which turbo you will want... Im looking to reach the 300whp as well..so this summer I will be doing some head work...and an upgraded turbo.... fuel pump...ok this one i just found out from another board...the stock fuel pump is only producing 100lph and the stock alltrac fuel pump is 105lph....they did a test and it showed that the stock fuel pump from the 5sfe is making the car run lean after 2000 rpm...so this can actually damage your engine..and blow it eventually...i will be upgrading my fuel pump asap and avoid this... engine tranny ecu wiring harness or half cut??engine tranny ecu and wiring harness is ok...but there a lot of things that you'll need to complete the swap...one thing is maf...if you just get the engine etc..you will not get the maf with this...engine coil...and a few more things....best thing to really do is just get a half cut to avoid all the problems.... so again...money and time here is the key....the 2jz will get you 300 easily but the work and modifications that you'll be doing will be 5x as much and will probably cost you more in the long run as you will be doing with the 3sgte....you wanna get 3sgte swap and get 300whp??start saving up because it won't be cheap...i might have miss a few things so if you see anything missing feel free to add more info... Gian

a full clip goes from 3500-5000 USD, obviously depending on KMs and who the seller is.

Anything can be done with lots of money. If i had a whole shit load of money to blow on something. I'd take a 2jz engine put it in my 02 celica but the engine would be in the back, mid engine. Talk about crazy. How often do you see a mid engine celica.

At that point its all preference on the car. If you like celicas or they hold a special interest for you then it isnt a waste...personally i would go with a 93 rx-7 or a 93 supra. It was just something that I thought up one day when i was bored.

definitely stick with a FWD engine setup, I can't even think to imagine all the heartache to switch to rwd, I've heard of it done, but even if you could get the engine for $2K...you may be able to get it running for $5K, but then you'd still have to get the power to the wheels (w/ tranny, drivetrain, etc), plus you'd need to stop it, upgrade brakes. etc. way too much hassle for the reward. however it may be a good alternative to my 22rte choice...sounds expensive tho...hmmmm always good to keep my options open
