Canada Technical question

Hi there, I have a 2002 Celica GT and I have bought this car new. Recently, I had the check light engine go on and the dealer said after diagnosing the codes that the problem are with the emision/ Converter etc.. Now not sure if this related, but the issue I am having is a grinding/knocking noise that is consistent throughout all the gears however, it is more noticeable when on 3rd, 4th and 5th gear on the hwy to the extent that its hard to hear the engine raving but rather this griding noise (sounds like something is spinning). I have to close the windows to be able to hear it and its quite loud. This noise is not heard at nuetral when I rav the engine.
Any idea what this might be??
Thanks

Re: Technical question

Well, looks like its the transmission that is causing the noise, the dealer said, and he quoted me over $4000 for the repairs. Any advice on how can I go aboutdoing this with the lowest cost possible?? Thanks

Re: Technical question

Holy crap! If it's just the transmission, just get a used one from a boneyard.

Re: Technical question

I just had the ses light come on the other day and after takin it to autozone where they read the codes for free it was the converter starting to fail, not good. anybody had any dealings with high flow cats for our car? btw mine is also a 2002 gt. i figure if ya already gotta spend a pretty penny on a cat i might as well spend the extra loot and go high flow, not off brand tho cuz i have heard bad news about pinchin a penny on high flow cats as all they have to do is flow 1% better than oem to be labled high flow and that dosnt always equal high grades on the old emmisions testing. and you about gave my young ass a heart attack with that quote of 4000 for the tranny...ouch...piece of mind over a boneyard yes, but the effects on the wallet....OUCH!
