drivebelt

I have downloaded the repair manual but the drivebelt replacemant section is a bit vague, unless it is as simple as they make it look. I have an 02 with the 1zz and the belt is startin to squeek and i peeked at it and is has lots of cracks. Is it a simple replacement or is it a headache? it almost looks as if the motor mount might be in the way. another little issue is I am getting a slight squeek/chirp when I up and and downshift...this is my first 5spd car i have owned so what might this sound be or is it normal, it's not loud, its one of those most people wouldnt even hear it but when I go drivin late night and its really quiet I can hear it on the shifts, just a quick little squeek. Thanks with any help...and anybody that really wants to help me get my feet wet with the celica world find me on yahoo messenger or email, im johnnylaw21 on yahoo, and still have more questions, especially in regards to upgrades. Thank you.

JJ

Re: drivebelt

Some of the GT's have issues with their belt tensioners. Most people swear by Goodyear's Gatorback belt. Replacing it isn't too hard if you have a wrench and breaker bar, plus small hands. It's a tight fit.

check newcelica.org for more info.

Re: drivebelt

Well, Thank you for replying...it is great to have a place like this to turn to. I did get the goodyear gator belt, i have used them on other rides and I swear by them as well. The only snag I ran into was the loaner tool from autozone actually snapped at the socket, and i am a small guy, but my new nik is the hulk cuz I broke the tool when pullin on the tensioner. The small hand thing is very true cuz yep, very tight fit but overall it was a piece of cake.
