Location of CAI air filter
Ok. Here's the deal. i'm trying to decide on an AEM CAI or an INJEN CAI. I know for a fact that the Injen air filter gets relocated to behind the foglight on the bumper cover and is protected from water by the wheel well cover. My question is: Where does the air filter on the AEM cai get relocated to?
This question is a MAJOR factor into which I get. Chicago gets very wet, very snowy, and I would HATE to hydrolock. |

Re: Location of CAI air filter
from my research thru this subject there are a few options
- if ure gonna go with Injen CAI, also get yourself a water shield from Injen or similar product that prevent water to get to the filter - if ure gonna go with AEM CAI, get yourself a bypass valve, I've heard pple claimed that it worked well, but also a few that claimed that one wouldn't need it unless submerged. even with both, it goes w/o saying but one should always stay away from puddles and reduce your driving under severe weather... Do more research on your own to find out more info about it and decide which ever is safer and best for you. As for my part, I'm getting AEM CAI w/o bypass valve cuz it's not likely that I'll b submerge here. hope that my opinion helped a bit... |

Re: Location of CAI air filter
your not goin to hydro lock your motor unless you park the car in a lake.
the AEM filter probable goes to the same place as the INJEN, since both more then likely run through the stock holes for the stock intake setup |

Re: Location of CAI air filter
i think the guy might of been reffering to water injection, injecting water into the intake to help cool the charge and help prevent detonation in turbo cars.
hydro locking is when your engine sucks up a large amount of water that fills the cylinders, once the cylinders as full then theres no combustion so your engine wont run. iv never personaly ran a cold air on any of my cars, but as long as your car has a front bumper and fender liners the fillter wont get that wet. i ran my swift over the summer with a cone filter bolted strait to the tb and a hood scoop right on top of it. i drove it like that for 6 hours from burlingon to montreal in pouring rain with no problems. |

Re: Location of CAI air filter
All CAI filters are located behind the foglight opening in front of the wheel well on the Celica. The wheel well will not offer enough protection from the elements either so you will have to close up the holes in it somehow.
Also, invest in a hydroshield and/or a heat shield which will help keep water out of the intake.

Re: Location of CAI air filter
ok lbasok i got a CAI on my celica and yes the filter is located behind the wheel well just like the injen CAI. I live near Chicago (Elgin to be exact) so i know what u mean about the weather. I've had my Aem CAI since August and i have not had any problems at all. So unless your gonna drive into a river or in a flood you should be fine.
