Trd Quick Shifter

I Just Installed A Trd Quick Shifter And Have A Problem With Getting It Into Reverse. Getting Into The Forward Gears Is No Problem But Reverse Is A Bear. Sometimes It Goes In Easily And Sometimes Its Like Reverse Isn't Even There. Is There An Adjustment That Needs To Be Done Under The Car Around The Transmission? i HAVE A SIX SPEED TRANS, ANY IDEAS?

Re: Trd Quick Shifter

It was fine before you put that shifter in? On mine I sometimes have to step on the clutch twice to get into reverse, it's the same on both my cars.

Re: Trd Quick Shifter

There was no problem with the oem shifter and its action going into reverse. Just thought that with a short shifter I'd enjoy the drive more. I tried applying some silicone grease on the ball and the rod shifts but no difference. Is there any adjustments to be done on or around the transmission area?

Re: Trd Quick Shifter

What I try to do is, in first gear, roll it a little and then TRY to slip it into reverse. Sometimes this works, sometimes not. Another way I tried is to slip it into sixth and then try to slide it into reverse,.....sometimes it works,...most times not. This week end I'm gonna put the oem shifter back in, reverse it out the driveway and try to see where my problem lies, at least within the console area. If all else fails, I guess I'll end up sliding under the car. I really like to shifter when I'm going forward, it's just the attempts to get into reverse that's killing my right shoulder!

Re: Trd Quick Shifter

Sorry, no cai at this time. Where I live, it rains a lot along with snow, not really sure if it'll be good for the intake.

Re: Trd Quick Shifter

I just got off the phone with a TRD rep. Apparently the shifter i bought wasn't supposed to be used on a GTS, six speed trans. Back in 2000 when the 7 gens first came out, TRD marketed the quickshifters. People were having problems downshifting from sixth gear mistakingly into third instead of fifth, second instead of fourth. They were blowing up their engines due to the high revs. Therefore, Toyota went to TRD to incorporate a design that prevented this. Only, it was supposed to go on the GT models only. The shifter I got mounts, fits and works great in the six forward gears,..it just doesn't like reverse! According to TRD, there is no retrofit kit out to fix the downshifting issue. Bummer, so I guess it's back to looking around for a short shifter that I can afford.
