Ticking noise..need help.

I have found a few threads on ticking already, but not what I was looking for. I own a 2001 GTS. I have a ticking noise coming from my drivers side wheel area. It is NOT a rock in the tire, but thats what it sounds like. I can only hear it when im going slow. It speeds up or slows down with the speed of the car. It has to be quiet like on a residential street with my window down to hear it. Any ideas? Thanks

I suggest you have your suspension and etc. inspected. Maybe it's a wheel bearing?

Re: Ticking noise..need help.

I have the exact same ticking on my 02 GT, if you figure out what it is please let me know... mine comes and goes, and is hard to make happen when you put a mechanic in the car to listen to it.

I have 17" aftermarket rims on my ride, with factory suspension, are you running stock or aftermarket? I wonder if it's a wheel issue or something suspension related.

If you do find a resolution to the issue, please post it here, or email me at
bhjelholt@insightsports.com

Thanks,
BJ

Re: Ticking noise..need help.

there is two things that i can think of its ether the wheel bearing or the CV axle... they both can make that kind of a noise...

Re: Ticking noise..need help.

I have same problem on my 02' GT with factory wheel & suspension. I think it comes from passenger side area probably rear wheel.
Mechanic said there are no problems on wheel alignment, bearings. He said it probably from tires. So, I changed tires. The noise seems to be gone. But still I can hear small noises.

Re: Ticking noise..need help.

is this sissue a ticking or clicking? i think of a ticking as a quieter tho still annoying noise, the clicking is the louder noise like when cvs are goin and you hear it when turning. I actually had this issue with the ticking in my other ride. it was so annoying, not that loud and most people never really noticed it, but it ended up being some sort or regulator piece of the emmisions system, it was mounted on the drivers side and just mid level so the noise could be heard from under the engine or with the hood open and it took forever to figure it out. it would tick at different speeds depending on the speed of the car. so, if its not as loud as a clicking, try checkin all the emmisions goodies, my other car had about half the emmisions this celica has so who knows, be persistent you will find it, and when ya do make sure to post and let us all know what it was.
