Need Help on deciding GT or GT-S
Hey guys, i'm brand new to the site. I'm not sure if this should of gone in the newbie section or not. Anyways, i'm looking at picking up a 7th gen, i've been looking for a few months now and there is next to nothing forsale locally. I've recently sold my '04 Spec V with a few bolt ons and supsension.
My questions is what would you buy: a GT-S with 70,000miles or a GT with 35,000miles? I obviously would rather have the GT-S but the higher miles kinda worry me, the GT-S and GT are about the same in price. Is there anything i should look for in buying a 7th gen? any common problems? recalls etc? I'm just kinda eager to get into a celica! |

Re: Need Help on deciding GT or GT-S
gt's burn oil like hell and 70k is great mileage but remember speed wise this is the breakdown
auto GTS<GT auto/manual<manual GTS GTS will last you a long time only known problem with the gts 00-02 model years are the LIFT bolts breaking but they are easily replaced and the bolt costs $.90 USD usually |

GTS FTMFW!!!!!!!! Don't I repeat DO NOT get the GT or you will regret it, not that they are bad cars; but if the tuning bug bites you and it will the GT's are pointless to modify.IMO

No natter what you do to the GT is will NEVER be quick, and it's pointless to dump money into it to try to make it go faster. Just put some nice rims on it and exterior mods and call it done.

Re: Need Help on deciding GT or GT-S
ok maybe i dont understand exactly why, but if you mod it out then wouldnt the power go up? there for making it faster? whats the big difference between the GT and the GTS?

Re: Need Help on deciding GT or GT-S
maybe its just becuz so far i have owned a 1980 toyota tercel and that was slow, and then i owned a 89 jeep cherokee that had nice low end for getting into traffic but it wasnt all that fast by any means, so i dont think my stock GT is all that slow, it gets going pretty good. but an engine is an engine so i dont see why you cant make it a little more peppy

Re: Need Help on deciding GT or GT-S
hmmm i think its kind of funny how everyone is saying that gt-s is a lot better than gt's i own a gt and ever since i had that car i never lost a race to a gts and all i had in the gt was an injen intake.... so if i am not wrong gt can get fast if u do right things to it... now i am rebuilting the motor and putting in new cams pistons and valves into the car after that getting a greddy supercharger with the greddy catback exhaust ... ummm that should do it in order to make it quick... as far of right now the quarter mile time was 15.5 sec. with a shaky clutch i heavent run it after i got in a stage three g-force clutch in it... so if u heavent driven gt dont say shit bout it...

Re: Need Help on deciding GT or GT-S
Not sure it would be quicker off the line, but as soon as you get past first gear (if driven correctly) it would pull away from a GT easily because of Lift.

Re: Need Help on deciding GT or GT-S
Go for the GTS, 70,000 is not high for a Toyota and you should be able to get a !/4 million out of the engine if you treat it right ... Loving mine at 128,000 and expecting to keep it until I don't need to drive anymore ... I am a happy 61 years young and love the GTS ...

Re: Need Help on deciding GT or GT-S
Doesn't the GTS have the 2ZZ-GE? Now from what I understand, doesn't the Exige and/or Elise use the 2ZZ-GE?
Right off the bat, I'd go with that fact. Further research informs me that the GT only has the 1ZZ-FE which is the same engine in the 2001+ Corolla; the infamous grannie car. Correct me if I'm wrong, but knowing this would make me want to get a GTS instead of a GT. |
