Depends on how much you want to do.
All parts form Toyota for 5S-FE: Gasket kit - CAD$250, metal head gasket, metal oil pump gasket, etc. Piston Rings - CAD$300 All crank bearings - CAD$300 You want P&P the head? High CR piston? Lighter rod? BTW why you wanna rebuild a 5 years old engine? |

Depends if the valve damaged the head. You may need a new head. Hopefully you just need to replace the valve and stems. If there is no damage on the bottom, you don't need to rebuild them. Just need to fix the head and replace headgasket.

Valves are about $5 a piece I think, x16. Don't need to change them all. Probably a few hundreds for parts. If you need another head, it'll be a lot. Need to call around to find an old head or engine.

It was a project for myself. I did something wrong and I have to do it again when it get warm. Gonna have P&P, high CR piston and cams for the next rebuild.
I don't mind rebuild for others but I'll need some manual for the engine. I got Toyota Repair Manual for my car, so I know exact torque for all the bolts and how to take it apart and put it back together. |

It ran for about a week then it lose power one night. Tow it home take oil pan off and find metals. Looks like the cams are grinding the head. Possible cause is I used gease on the cam bearing and oil can't get through. Will need to tear the engine apart to see if there are any other clues. I don't think I can save the head but I hope I can save the block. Not gonna d anything untill it get warm and stop snowing. My garage is not big enough to fit the car and have room to rebuild engine. Car need to sit on driveway to do that. The Celica is now on jacks in the garage.
It was fun when it run. With P&P the engine is more powerful and rev much easier. Go to the last few pages from the link to see the damage. |
