Rattling

I notice a rattling coming from under the hood at and over 3500 RPM's. Oil levels are fine... Any ideas?

Fuck the oil levels, pop the hood and start shaking shit. If everything is in place its most likely the heatshield from your header or another part of your exhaust.

All. I have the same problem. Describing it as a rattle is hard, it sometimes sounds like a buzz. I agree with Daks: I suspect it is the exhaust manifold heat shield. My Celi is a 2000 also, and the heat shield is rusty. I expect at this rpm (3500) that there is some play in it that causes this noise. I am also curious to hear if anyone else has encountered this.

For what it's worth, I only seem to notice it when the engine is under load. Right around the 3 - 3.5k rpms. I strongly now believe it is the header heat shield. Have approx 130k on my car now. It would be interesting if any late model Celi's also share this problem or if it is simply age and rust.

I have a rattling at 3500 - 4000 RPM ... but the rattle doesn't come from the engine... it just comes from interior parts and or panels

Rattling

I 2000 celica recently just got that rattle at 94k but comes and goes. I am going to have my Acura techs take a look at it in the next few days. My question to you guys is that... does anyone feel a difference in the drive at all?? Other then the noise... i really don't notice anything different. Anyone else have any more problems with these Celicas at high miles??? I am comtemplating about trading this car in for something new... but i really love the way it drive.

tkc, this is more a nuisance issue than a serious problem. My Celica has been stone reliable. It just feels broken in now. Good for another 6 years at least. :)

Its the heatshield for the header, I had that problem. It disappeared once I took the heatshield off.

Daks, no problem to the surrounding area after removal? Only inquring because I would like to do the same. Thanks. tkc, to see the heatshield you need to look behind the engine, (firewall side) to see the header. The perforated steel plate bolted to the manifold is the heat shield. ;)

I removed this about 3 years ago when I replaced my header, I have not had any problems since. If you are concerned about heat soak I suggest grabbing some thermal wrap.

Know this you can see sounds. It should weird but you can. Sometimes just by observeing you can find where a rattle or a sqeek is comeing from. But since you said it does it at a rev it does seem like it would be the heat shield

I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT IT IS THE HEATSHIELD. I JUST FIXED MINE YESTERDAY. All I had to do was take my heat shield off and then i tried to take it out but it diddnt work beauase the little hood scoo ting gets in the way. When i put it on my problem was solved. Check it for rust, remove it or clean it. Thank guys glad to help

How tough is it to get the heatshield off and out of there?
Or better yet, can the rattling be corrected while leaving the shield on?

You could try selling the car, then you could leave it on and not hear the noise.

True.....but then I'd have to buy something else.

I'd prefer to fix it without removing it. That way I can keep my 2ZZ and my 2500lb baby

the heat shield on my gt was a bitch, i would reccomend a lift. We could not get it off w/o one. There was the hood scoop vent thing that got in the way. But the heat shield is a breeze to take off. Check your bolts. There should be 4. More than likely one of yourse rusted off
