clear turn signals legal?

hey everybody, i live in california and was wondering if anybody knows the law pertaining to turn signals. I just put clear corners on my car and already have the tail lights blacked out, so the only visible color on my car now is the amber bulb in the head light for the turn signal.

i would like to replace these with clear bulbs, but i'm pretty sure thats illegal. does anybody know for sure?
thanks

Re: clear turn signals legal?

I've got a few US friends and heard that the state of "california" is really sh1t when it comes to cars and modding, heard stories of peeps with TRD exhausts being pulled and kitted cars ticketed also intakes being ticketed even thou of the emmission sticker being pressent. To me the pigs in that state are taking the p1ss with you lot big time.
You might be ok but espect if you get pulled, some rosser will pick up on it. I'm just glad we don't have those silly laws here. If I got stopped by a pig for a clear light I woudl tell him to sod off and catch shop lifters, muggers, house bugilers car vandles etc instead of acting like a prat.

Ha, you'd have to put the cops into a pretty pissy mood to get ticketed for that. Sure, they'll be looking for any excuse to nail you if your car looks like it could feed a small country with the amount of rice it burns, but emissions stickers aren't everything - it's gotta pass a visual inspection. Even then, that doesn't guarantee you'll go free just because we've got such strict emission laws here: they leave it up to the consumer to anticipate what's going to be a problem...I almost couldn't get my car registered because the sticker on the inside of the driver door was painted over, so they couldn't be sure I had a 2200 on my '90 GT-S...we've just got bad reps with modders over here, causing accidents and such, so they don't mess around. (if you get caught speeding in a heavily modded street car, especially one that's not-so-legal, they crush it)

Although, (worst case scenario) if you got the ticket you could still fight it as long as they don't catch you doing something stupid.

And to OAK2....not sure, ask your local Highway Patrol/PD office. I think it just gets the DMV itchy because they like to have everything in order, and if you mod the lights after the Brake and Light inspection, they don't know if they work according to their standards. Then again, don't some newer cars have clear turn signals?

Re: clear turn signals legal?

sweet~ and on that note--

True Blues are illegal. I know all the shops say they aren't in our area, but my uncle's a cop, and he gave my brother a list of the specifications they use to determine if lights are illegally colored. They have to be within a certain amount of shades from "true white" to be legal (so most blue-whites are okay). It's just like how the shops used to say that windshield lights were totally legal, until people started getting pulled over like crazy for having blue/green LEDs flashing directly into their face while they're driving.

Re: clear turn signals legal?

so you're saying that white turn signals and "blue white" turn signals are ok, as long as they are straight up blue?

Re: clear turn signals legal?

Didn't some of the JDM imports have clear turning signals instead of amber?...but I digress--

Apparently, you can *sometimes* get away with having clear turning signals in the rear. That's not to say that it's perfectly compliant with vehicle safety protocol. However, for the front you absolutely have to have one or the other amber: clear covers with amber bulbs or amber covers with white or blue-white bulbs.

And no, blue turn signals are not ok xD The cop who pulls you over probably won't even say anything, he'll just slap you...Blue-white bulbs are just halogen bulbs that have a slight tint of blue added to their burn so that they come off looking like a fluorescent white.

Re: clear turn signals legal?

clear indicator lenses are fine if you have a amber bulb, my suzuki has both clear front and rear indicators with amber bulbs stock.

the blue turning indos are illegal in ontario because blue flasing lights are only supposed to be on snow plows.

and about the intake, it may have the sticker on it but if its not instaled right its still illegal.
