not a saturn

im new here and im not really an import guy so pardon my ignorance. heres the story, my girlfriend has a '01 celica gt thats been growing on me the more i drive/ride in it, and the other day we were going to get something to eat and a pos saturn pulls up at a light, the guy pulls the bitch ricer boy move and doesnt even look over, rev up, nothing and takes off as fast as he can when the light turns green, my gf floors it as soon as she hears the $35 autozone exhaust on the saturn whimper and much to my surprise the saturn stays ahead, it doesnt really pull much ahead but it should still be no match for the celica, i was pissed and so was she, i know i shouldnt let this kid get to me but it was a saturn, add to that the fact that i drive a ford so losing to any GM irks me and something has to be done, i know this is a long way of asking this but are there any free mods or cheap ways of getting real hp cuz this was not cool, i almost wanted to go get my car and look for the kid. i dont know much about the price/availibility of mods for celicas and neither does my girlfriend, and this looks like a nice place yall got here, any info would be appreciated
thanks. Spike.

budget is shoestring, the less the cost the better thats why i asked if there are any freemods, i can do just about anything to a v-8 so i could probably find my way around the basics of her engine without screwing anything up too bad, id rather do free stuff but id be willing to spend a couple hundred, shes been wanting to do something to the engine so maybe i can talk her into something interesting. but my mustang is my money pit right now, so the less cost the better. id imagine as light as these things are every hp would help, any good exhausts for low cash? intakes worth anything on these cars? headers cant be that much, they can cost 400 for my car and thats for long tubes that are 3x the size of a 4 cyl header.
thanks for any help. Spike.

is her gt an auto? if so don't bother. If it's a 5spd then there are still very limited things you can do with it. A couple hundered will get you an intake that will yeild if anything maybe 2 fwhp. You could then add an exhaust (used) for another few hundred. Header, flywheel, clutch. That's about it. You arent going to see any significant changes but it will free up and add a few hp. Honestly though IMO it really isnt worth it for the money you would spend.

and at the end of the 1000's of dollars he still beat you in a saturn...

and looking it up even a modded saturn shouldnt pull on you....what other excuses do you have for this shame?... if it's a slush box then i think you shoulda mashed on the pedal harder if it's a manual then shifts are too long

for the record she was driving not me, its a manual, and he didnt pull away but after the cheap headstart she didnt reel him in at all, she also doesnt shift very fast, and had all 220 pounds of me in the passenger seat, that being said.....it was a saturn. and does it really take that much cash to make these things quick??? is there anything at all i can do in the way of p&p on the intake side? is it a 2 piece manifold like on the mustang or a single piece, cuz i dont wanna get into a lower plenum. how much headers cost, cant be more than a couple hundred and seems like it would be the most bang for the buck, and what about electronics programmers? chips?
