Short Shifters

whatsup everyone, i am looking into purchasing a brand spankin new short shifter for my celi.

I'm looking at this TRD one just because i would like to stick to modding with mostly trd parts on my car: PTR04-20000-10 - Quickshifter Parts and Accessories

but my question is: is there really any difference between this short shifter and those 20$ ones on ebay? is it just the name you are paying for, or are there actual comfort/performance differences?

If you want to cheap out, just take yours out, cut it and rethread it. and put it back in and save yourself the $20.

The TRD SS is a very good kit. Well worth the money.

TWM is also nice but has a more mechanical "notchy" feel. Just depends what you like. Same with B&M.

Do not go with a $20 ebay one.

Can't go wrong with TRD, will always have stock fitment on all parts and without issues.

I love my TWM Shifter, it's not too stiff, I found the TRD one almost the same as the stock one.

Got the TWM weighted shift knob too. It's like day and night. Never knew a knob will make such a difference, well worth the $100.

arite so i'm still debating between twm and trd, still leaning toward trd because from what ive herad it has easy install, is closer to driver, and has stock feel.

but can anyone thats actually tried both trd and twm shifters tell me the difference in feel? i know its kind of hard to describe, but im just trying to visualize which one i would like better



also, i noticed at the bottom of that link i posted it says Fits Celica GTS 00-01, Celica GT 00-04.

i have a 2001 gt, so i guess this particular shifter does not pertain to me. Does anybody know a site to get a trd short shifter for a 2001 gt for relatively cheap?

Oak, I can't speak to the TWM, but I can offer some additional insight to try and help you out. I originally had a B&M shortshifter. I found the "notchy" feel to be too much for me. Now having said this, many people have the B&M and actually prefer them. Tim, who is the ringleader of this site bought my B&M and LOVE's it. The throw with the B&M is shorter, and I understand that this is the case with the TWM also. I swore off shortshifters for about two years after selling the B&M, but took a chance with the TRD unit. I have a 2k GT and it fits without issue. I love this thing. It isn't as short as either the TWM or B&M, but it retains the smooth stock feel and actually enhances it. It is lower than stock too, which is a plus. It really depends on what you are seeking, I feel. Lowest height and most aggressive short gate pattern, or? Hope this helps.

thanks everybody for your replies and opinions. the other week i found a forum on nc.org that layed out all the differences between ss's for the celica. after reading that I ended up buying a TWM from ebay a couple days ago, and should be receiving it in a week or two. i'll let you guys know how it goes

Nice! be sure to grease the hell out of any contact points. The ball and cups, any moving parts. Put too much grease on it.
