bypass valve

hey everyone, i just bought a aem cai and got it in the mail today. i'm anxious to put it in, but am curious about the issue of bypass valves.

from what ive heard, hydrolocking is pretty rare and it only happens where its constantly raining. I live in a place where it definintely rains, but only during the winter and spring seasons off and on. So my question is, in your guys' oppinions, is it worth the extra 50 bucks for the security factor or is it just a waste of money because it wont do anything for mysituation?

i would like to know so if i need to get one, i can get it by this weekend and put them both in at the same time. also, i've heard if you just leave the panelling on, it protects from water just as good?

thanks,
tim

Re: bypass valve

You probably don't need one. Just be smart and go slowly through any standing water.

Re: bypass valve

yeah just try to avoid huge puddles but if you cant, just take your foot off the gas if you are driving through a puddle that you think you will actually suck up alot of water...
it takes a fair bit to lock up a motor.
let us know how the install goes

Re: bypass valve

tim

did u keep your under engine plastics in place to cover the CAI filter? Or is the filter completely exposed to open air. If its the exposed the fork over the extra 50 bucks just so that if one day u do drive through a pot hole and cant move out of the way on time you wont need to replace/fix your engine. If its covered then fuck it.

Re: bypass valve

it is not worth gettign the bypass valve the length of the tubing is not longenough for the bypass to work properly.

the best thing to do is to cover the holes in teh plastic by the wheel well i used black duct tape and it usually last most of the year.

Re: bypass valve

see that's not logical, the length of the pipe shouldn't have much to do with the valve... i mean there does need to be a suction factor but they seem to be easy to open....

fuck it, put it on, intakes don't make power anyways.
